The pipefish
The pipefish have a long snout used to suck-up
small worms and shrimps. They are really slow and
clumsy swimmers using their dorsal fin as
the most important way to propel itself through
the water. Pipefishes and their seahorse relatives,
leave most of the parenting task to the male.
A pipefish on the bottum of the sea
A Pipefish has a long snout, like a pipe,
capable of sucking in small shrimps. The greater
pipefish has no tooth.
Pipefish are shy fish, always on the run
for predators, often swimming with the head down ,
between seagrass. With thanks for these three photo's
to Bart Holvoet.
