Arrowhead

An elegant perrinial waterplant That uses mostly its rhizomes
for spreading through the ditch. The Arrowhead will also grow
streaming water but prefer swallow waters, like a pond,

Leaves

There are three kind of leaves : underwater leaves are thin and long
Above the water they have the tipical arrowhead form.

Floating on the water are more or less round leaves.

Parasites

The larvae of the Bloodworm dig
holes in the underwater stem.

The strong points

Arrowhead resists cold weather better then other waterplants.

The weak points

Arrowhead is vulnerable for insects and slugs
It doesn't grow as fast as the Waterlilly .

During the flowering season one can find the beautiful
leaves above the surface.

This painting "Naardermeer" is made by M.A.Koekkoek, and was used on schools.
Flowering arrowhead can be seen on the right, down.
