The yellow pond-lily (Nuphar lutea)

A fast growing waterplant that is often used as
an ornamental plant in ponds.
The Yellow pond-lily can be found in deeper water were
it forms very long stems. The deeper the water is,
the larger the leaves are.

The Yellow pond-lily have an long flowering period,
from the end of spring until the mid of fall.
But the most important way of reproduction is by
its spongy long rhizomes that angor the pond-lily
in the mud of the pond.


Wildlife in youre pond


Just like the white water-lily the edible frog use
the floating leaves as an platform for hunting insects.
Many waterinsects find shelter up and under its leaves.

The enemies of the Yellow pond-lily



The floating leaves of the waterlily have an terrible bitter
taste , preventing it from being eaten by most fish
and waterinsects. Even Koi won't eat youre pond-lily.
But not by the Great Ramshorn (Planorbis corneus), that puts its
eggs on the underside of the leaves.




The Yellow pond-lily is often the dominant species in pond and ditch.
