Lesser Periwinkle
The lesser Periwinkle is an evergreen, and can
be found as a groundcover in woods. Periwinkle
flowers early in spring and forms purple-blue flowers
with five petals. Periwinkle grows in every soil
and grows in the sun or in the shadow.
Cultivars of Lesser Periwinkle
The most well known cultivar is the "Gertrude Jekyll" with white
flowers.
Lesser Periwinkle or Vinca minor
Lesser Periwinkle reproduction
By far the most important way of propagation
is by the fast growig rhizomes. The blue-purple
flowers are often covered by the leaves of
the periwinkle. For this reason those leaves
are often removed if the periwinkle grows in
the garden.
