Salinity
Salinity is the dissolved salt content of an amount of water.
Natural seawater has a salinity of about 35 ppt or 1.025.
For the sea-aquarium ita range between 1.023 and 1.026.
High evaporation rates raise the salinity.
Raining lowers the salinity.
Specific gravity
SalinitySalanity is difficult to measure, so most aquarists prefer
to describe the saltiness of the water as a density.
The specific gravity of aquariumwater is a comparison of its
density to that of purified water.
It can easely be measured by uing a Specific gravity meter:

Swing arm hygrometers are the most used hygrometers.
You need to tick on the plastic after you filled it with
water: This is to remove airbubbles that stick to the instrument.
The measurement is inacurate.
conductivity
Conductivity is a measure of the water's ability to conduct an electric current.
The more salt, the better it will conduct the electricity. This measurement
is fast and very acurate, not disturbed by air bubbles.

Seawater can be produced at home by mixing salt with water.
The mixing can be done with a cleaned home mixer.
Do never add the seasalt directly to the aquarium if there are
living things in, as undissolved salt is a poison for fish.

for producing seawater.
Biggest mistake producing seawater
Doing it to fast, after mixing the salt with the water
The water need to rest for 2 days! This is mainly
to remove the very small airbubbles. These airbubbles stick to
the gills of youre watercreatures, blocking the bloodflow.
Use youre filtration system to circulate the water.
Another mistake producing seawater
If youre freshwater source is polluted or contain
cleaning chemicals, use an osmose watercleaning to get
youre fresh water clean.

Floating hygrometers are placed a bucket with the waterthat needs
to be tested and left floating for a moment. When the device settles,
you need to tick it, as airbubbles will attache to the bottom of the
floating hygrometer.
The surface of the water will cover the scale up to the density which can
be read off. Its an inaccurate measurement.
