Apple snail

Ampullariidiae

Appel snails live a real amphibian live, sometimes on
the land, mostly in the water. These snails are really
adapted: Oxygen is inhaled by the lungs if they are
on the land and by gills in the water. Also the
skin has a small capacity absorbing oxygen, both in
water and on the land. The siphon is a living tube
that is used to inhale oxygen when submerged.

Appel snails as a living food.

Fresh water lobsters, larger fish and leeches feed
on the apple snails. In the tropics birds are
the most important threat for the apple snails.

the young snails are prey for almost every
fish, shrimp and insect in the tropics.

What do they eat5

Its hard to find something that isn't eaten by these
snails, but they prefer soft vegetables. But they
also eat dead or living animals, each other and there offspring. But normally they feed on algae.
