Fire bug



A red colored beautiful bug that lives in groups.
The bright red color warns birds not to eat the Fire bug
as it has a gland that produce an offensiv
smelling substance. It a harmless insects.

Fire bug propagating



In the beginning of the summer they
start mating, attracted by a smell produced by the female.
The mating can easely take a whole day. The eggs
that are laid produce a mini Fire bug.
Although Firebugs have wings
they can't fly. In the South of europe live
relatives of the fire bugs that do fly.

Feeding

The Fire bug feed on seeds and fruits , sucking them with
its sharp mouth parts. They feed on lime seeds
and seeds of the Mallow.
