Chameleon prawn

Hippolyte varians or chameleon prawn

hippolyte varians

A beautiful small shrimp that lives in brackish water , but
can also be found in the north sea. As the name suggests has the abilty to
change it's color, depending on the surrounding. Green and yellow
and brown are possible. The rear end is transparant and in the evening they
look a bit blueish. This small creature is afraid of all the other aquarium
animals. It lives from algae that grow on sea weeds. The Kew Garden sea aquarium
use this nice animal to keep the aquaria free of algae.
