Catalpa



The catalpa is a deciduous tree , that is used as
an ornamental tree in parks and gardens. This tree
can reach a height of 20 meters. The leaves of the
Catalpa are large. They appear in the mid of the
spring ,later then the other tree.

Flowering start when the summer is already half way.
The lowers are white and resemble those of
horse-chestnut. they have the fregrance of Chamomile


seeds of the Catalpa



The catalpa has long beanpods that are formed at the
end of the summer and that stay on the tree until
next year. The seeds can be used for growing new trees.

Catalpa cultivars



Some cultivars have another color of the leaves:
The Catalpa bigonioides 'Aurea 'has yellow
leaves, De Caltapa bignoides 'purpurae'
has redish leaves.
These two cuiltivars are rather larger and
can be used as a stand-alone tree in a large
garden or park. But for a smaller the cultivars : Catalpa 'speciosa '
and Catalpa 'bungei ' are better suited.

    The Catalpa resembles the Paulownia tomentos,
    but the Catalpa has groups of flowerbuds
    standing together, the Pauwlonia hasn't.
