This page shows a list of seeded teams for draws in the first rounds of the UEFA Cup 2001/2002. The UEFA Team Ranking of 2001 determines the seeding of the teams in the tables below.

Besides the division of teams into seeded and unseeded teams, the teams in the first rounds are usually divided into a number of groups based on geographical criteria. One of the goals of these geographical criteria is to avoid the pairing of teams from the same country. Each group has the same number of seeded and unseeded teams, and a seeded team will always play against an unseeded team. In the preliminary round the 82 teams are divided into 10 groups.

Because the Hungarian championship was not finished at the day of the draw for the qualification round (June 22), the Hungarian runner-up Dunaferr Dunaujvaros is treated as unseeded.

For the draw of the 1st round the 96 teams are divided into 6 groups of 16 teams. Each group consists of 8 seeded and 8 unseeded teams. Actually during the draw at August 24, UEFA treated Varteks Varazdin as unseeded. UEFA admitted the mistake, but the draw will not be changed.
