This page shows a list of seeded teams for draws in the first rounds of the Champions League 2001/2002. The UEFA Team Ranking of 2001 determines the seeding of the teams in the tables below.

Because the Hungarian championship was not finished at the day of the draw for the 2nd qualification round (June 22), the Hungarian champion Ferencvaros is treated as unseeded.

In the 2nd qualification round the following teams are seeded with the coefficients of their opponents in the 1st qualification round: Sloga Skopje replaced the seeded team FBK Kaunas, Vllaznia Shkoder replaced the seeded team KR Reykjavik.

UEFA’s Control & Disciplinary Body decided to award the Finnish champions Haka Valkeakoski a 3-0 win as the Israeli side Maccabi Haifa fielded Valid Badeer, who was suspended, during the match in Haifa on 1 August 2001.

In the 3rd qualification round the following teams are seeded with the coefficients of their opponents in the 2nd qualification round: Levski Sofia replaced the seeded team SK Brann Bergen, Haka Valkeakoski replaced the seeded team Maccabi Haifa.

For the draw of the 1st group stage, the 32 teams are divided into four pots. Pot 1 will comprise last year's title holders Bayern München and the top seven clubs in the team ranking. Pot 2 will comprise the following eight clubs in the rankings, and so on. Each group in the 1st group stage will contain one team of each pot. But it takes a very complicated draw procedure (see draw procedure) to determine to which group a particular team is allocated. One objective of the draw is that teams from the same country cannot not be drawn into the same group.

Seeding procedure for the draw for the second group stage:
• The 16 clubs involved will be divided among four draw pots
• The 8 group-winners will be put into seeded pots 1 and 2 according to their different coefficients. The 4 group-winners with the best coefficients will go into seed pot 1.
• The 8 group runners-up will be put into seed pots 3 and 4 according to the same principle, i.e. the 4 clubs with the best coefficients will go into seed pot 3.
• One club from each seed pot will be drawn into each of the four groups.
• Clubs from the same association cannot be drawn into the same group.
• In principle, group-winners and runners-up from the same first-stage group will not be drawn into the same group again.

Seeding procedure for the draw of the quarter-finals:
• The 4 group-winners will be put into the seeded pot, and the 4 group runners-up will be put into the unseeded pot
• Group-winners and runners-up from the same group will not be drawn against each other.

So, the draw will put each group winner against a runner-up from one of the other three groups. Teams from the same second stage group cannot meet, but teams from the same country can.
