By using the back button, you site allows to navigate back in time, for example to 1978.

Am I correct to say, that this should not have been the case, since team ranking has been in effect since 1999?

In addition, the data on your site for older periods appear to be wrong or incomplete.
For example for the ranking of 1978, Greek team PAOK appears to be 15th in europe with only 5 wins in 5 years!
While Greek team AEK that reached the UEFA cup semifinal with 5 wins in just 1977, appears to be in lower positions. While AEK results of 1977 appear less points compared to 1976 which is completely wrong.

Would you be kind enough to clarify the situation?

You are right that the current method (with different country contributions) is used since 1999. The rankings before 1998 were only used for seeding of teams in the UEFA Cup, and are calculated completely different.
