Home/Away games draw in CL for Russia

Hello all,

Me and my friends had a discussion about the draw of home/away games for teams from Russia in Group Stage of Champions League. At the moment all first and last games (first and sixth tours of Group Stage of current format) were played away.

Could you please explain how it works regarding climate and other aspects. Only once there were two teams from Russia and both from Moscow, the rest seasons teams were from different towns. If cska Moscow qualifies to Group Stage this season will it affect the draw for Spartak Moscow who qualified already?

Not sure.
But I think it is pure random/luck.

Earlier there have been rules, but they should be cancelled now.
Also they played in Ukraine at MD6.

(Manchester made som noise about it, and there was a little talk whenever this should be reintroduced, that MD6 couldn't be played in the coldest area of Russia/Ukraine etc.)

Some countries are declared having to cold climates for home matches in the last matchday of CL and EL groupstage. These include Russia, Norway, Sweden and Kazakhstan.

So clubs from these countries will automatically play away on MD 6, and because of the schedule this also means they play away on MD 1 and home on MD 2 and 5.

So also if 2 clubs from Moscow will be in CL-GS this will not change. It also should not be a problem to have 1 match at Tuesday and 1 at Wednesday in Moscow I guess.

I think (I'm from Russia) that Spartak and CSKA will play Matchday6 not in Moscow both and, for example, on Matchday3 both clubs will play in Moscow - in Tuesday and Wednesday.

Yeah, it's not the problem nor for UEFA, not for Russia, even nor for Moscow and Moscow transport (the metro station "CSKA" will open in 2017-2018, so both clubs will have it's "own" subway stations).
I think it's great to have 2 CL matches in Moscow!

Forza-AS, match on Tuesday and Wednesday is posssible if teams from Moscow will be split like Real Madrid and Barcelona, isn't it?

I hope cska will get through the play-off and the record of Akinfeev will grow further and also we could see will it affect the structure of games or get a proof of climate regulations.

I'm pretty sure the answer lies in the fact that eastern european teams are playing at earlier time. So, in the last round, and because of the same time procedure between the two group games, UEFA's preference is that instead of moving the 2-game time, it is better to avoid a situation where teams from eastern europe will host the last game (and then the first game also). This is likely to change in a situation where one group will have several teams from eastern europe.

It has nothing to do with different time zone, but with (possible) cold weather in these countries in MD6.

That is why all teams from these countries will always play away in MD6. Teams in the same time zone, but without cold climate (Turkey, Azerbaijan) can play at home in MD6. And this resulted last year in some EL-groups with early kick-off in MD6, also for the other match in the groups:

8 December 2016
1700 Konyaspor(Tur)-KAA Gent(Bel)
1700 SC Braga(Por)-FC Shakhtar Donetsk(Oek)

1700 Qarabağ FK(Aze)-ACF Fiorentina(Ita)
1700 PAOK FC(Gri)-FC Slovan Liberec(Tsj)

1700 Osmanlıspor(Tur)-FC Zürich(Zwi)
1700 Villarreal CF(Spa)-FC Steaua Bucureşti(Roe)
