Google adds

Almost eight months ago I asked all users of this website (see Support this forum) to consider to make a donation for the costs of webhosting. I'm glad to report that enough contributions were received to pay the webhosting for at least one year. Thank you all for your support.

The number of visitors has increased since then to over 3 million visits incl. reloads, or 1.5 million unique visitors a year (see eXTReMe Tracking). The generated web traffic is now about 25 GB/month. These numbers indicate that the current level of webhosting will not be enough in the near future.

The cost of this webserver is now paid from the contributions of a relatively small number of people. I don't think that's very fair. Also therefore I'm looking into ways to extend the website with Google-adds to generate some money. Some of you may already have noticed the new "Search" button at the top of the main page, or the new Search option at the forum search page. Also the News and Links sections have now Google adds.

For me it is an experiment to see if this approach will be succesful. That's not always simple as you may see at one of the more popular pages: the uefaclubs page. Google adds becomes confused here with the long list of club names, and thinks it's a German website with very dubious content

If the experiment is succesful you will see more Google adds at the pages of this website, including the forum. I hope you will have understanding for this. Of coarse your donations are still welcome, but you might also contribute to this website by clicking the Google adds. Thank you.

No problem Bert - this site is a valuable resource & I'm sure most are happy to help fund it.

BUT - I'd suggest that those reporters who use the discussions & information on here to provide easy content to articles, and other businesses (like the consultant on the League of Ireland) should be sent a bill, with a note that the businesses who contribute will be credited, those that don't will be pointed out as plagarists.
