| Regulation 3.06 in the UEL Regulations says the following: "...If the UEFA Europa League titleholder qualifies for the UEFA Europa League through one of its domestic competitions, the number of places to which its association is entitled in the UEFA Europa League is decreased by one..."
And Regulation 3.09b in UCL Regulations says: (Context: association with 4 UCL places that also produces both the UCL and UEL winners, one of which qualifies for the Europa League through its domestic competitions while the other does not) "....In this case, the association of the titleholders is entitled to one additional place (total of five) in the UEFA Champions League, but the number of places to which it is entitled in the UEFA Europa League does not change"
What happens if the UEL winner qualifies for the Europa League while the UCL winner does not qualify for Europe at all? What happens to the number of UEL places that the association is entitled to?
Don't the two regulations give different answers to this scenario? |

Edited by: Forza-AZ at: 11-05-2016, 23:46 | So this scenario: -CL winner and EL winner both from top 3 country (4 CL + 3 EL spots) -CL winner doesn't qualify for Europe -EL winner qualifies for EL
CL winner and EL winner both get spot in CL. Because this would mean the country would have 6 teams in the CL, while 5 is the maximum number, the 4th placed team in the league will not qualify for CL but for EL.
So there will be 5 teams in CL (1st, 2nd, 3rd, CL-winner, EL-winner) and 3 in EL (4th, 2 regular EL-qualifiers)
Regulation 3.06 says the country will have 1 less EL-spot. That is true, however they get 1 spot extra back for the 4th placed team which was kicked out of their CL-spot.
Regulation 3.09b says no change in numer of EL-spots, which is correct. There will still be 3 teams in EL. |
