| Statistics from here is updated with 2013/14 GS results.
"I started from 1995/96 season, because it is the first year that a win is rewarded 3 points in CL GS. There were 4 groups in 95/96 and 96/97 seasons, 6 groups in 97/98 and 98/99 seasons and from 99/00 on there are 8 groups. That makes a total of 140 groups under investigation."
This year we've witnessed some unlikely situations like 3rd placed team getting 12 points while there are teams qualifying with 6 and 7 points. Also second placed team getting 15 points is a first, too.
Points gathered by the teams finishing as;
1st: Theoretically can be between 6-18, except 17
2nd: Theoretically can be between 4-15
3rd: Theoretically can be between 2-12
4th: Theoretically can be between 0-9
Actual Cases:
1st in group:
18 points: 3 times - 2.14%
16 points: 14 times - 10.0%
15 points: 14 times - 10.0%
14 points: 14 times - 10.0%
13 points: 34 times - 24.3%
12 points: 23 times - 15.9%
11 points: 22 times - 16.4%
10 points: 13 times - 9.29%
9 points: 2 times - 1.43%
8 points: 1 time - 0.71%
On average, a group winner gathers 12.93 points.
2nd in group:
15 points: 1 time - 0.71%
13 points: 9 times - 6.43%
12 points: 17 times - 12.1%
11 points: 20 times - 14.3%
10 points: 37 times - 26.4%
9 points: 29 times - 20.7%
8 points: 20 times - 14.3%
7 points: 6 times - 4.29%
6 points: 1 time - 0.71%
On average, a group runner-up gathers 9.96 points.
3rd in group:
12 points: 1 time - 0.71%
10 points: 8 times - 5.71%
9 points: 15 times - 10.7%
8 points: 26 times - 18.6%
7 points: 42 times - 30.0%
6 points: 24 times - 17.1%
5 points: 14 times - 10.0%
4 points: 8 times - 5.71%
3 points: 2 times - 1.43%
On average, third team gathers 7.01 points.
4th in group:
7 points: 5 times - 3.57%
6 points: 14 times - 10.0%
5 points: 21 times - 15.0%
4 points: 31 times - 22.1%
3 points: 24 times - 17.1%
2 points: 16 times - 11.4%
1 point: 14 times - 10.0%
0 points: 15 times - 10.7%
On average, fourth team gathers 3.33 points. |

It covers a total of 216 groups. And is devided by number of wins, draws and losses. So a 3-3-0 and 4-0-2 is devided even tough both give 12 points.
