| So is it from 2014/15 that the domestic cup finalist will not have the chance to participate in UEFA competitions (if they lose to the champions) ? I thought it would be from 15/16 |

| Losing Cup finalists in the current season (2013 and 2013/14) still qualify for the EL 2014/15. In next season (2014 and 2014/15) the losing Cup finalists don't qualify any more for the EL 2015/16. |

| Thanks. I just wanted to make sure because I have read articles here in Cyprus which say that the losing finalist rule will be effective as of this season. I think I have also heard the president of the Cypriot Football Association saying the very same thing. But can the any domestic Football Association deny this rule by UEFA as of this season? |

The rule applies for all countries. A country can't defy from that rule on their own. So either the president of the Cyprus FA isn't informed correctly, or the media didn't understand him correctly. |

| I'm guessing that the president of Cypriot FA isn't informed correctly then. This is what he said. "If the champions win the Cup final, then the runner up is not playing to Europe. This always happened. Always depends on the Winners. The finalists do not go to Europe. Plus when you have two teams that will compete in the Champions League and we decided that the second group will go through the institution of the league |

| Well we won't know until next year who gets that spot. But since Norway usually is in the top 5, we might see Tromsø again in next years EL. And have a division 1 team for the second year in a row if that happens. |

| Dinamo Minsk qualified for the EL before the last round in Belarus. Only one more place is still open, either Neman Grodno will take it as 4th place finisher or another team from the cup by winning it or as losing finalist in case of BATE as the winner. So, BATE go to the CL, Shaktyor Soligorsk, Dinamo Minsk and one more team to the EL. |

| In the "old" days websites with actual current data (say within 12 hrs) were not so common. There was rsssf (good, but not always fast). To get other info (sometimes fast/sometimes background) I usually added some other sites with good info.
Nowadays, we have the wiki pages which have usually accurate and fast info (credit where credit is due). |

| I am portuguese and we know anything is officiall in this moment.
In my opinion Porto and Benfica booth will fight to get the first position and be champion.
They have the best squads in portuguese league. Sporting should take the 3rd position and take the ticket to play on playoff of champions league. I think it?s very probable they gets the 3 first position in the table.Braga had a bad league start and that is problem for them to fight against Sporting for 3rd position.
So, Braga and Estoril are the best teams to get the last 2 spots and get EL, I am sure that happens!
For the last spot to get europe next season, we have Vitoria or Nacional. For me is better Nacional to get the last spot, because they have more disponible money to improve his squad.
I would like to see for next season this teams:
1\2- Porto or Benfica (champions league) 3- Sporting(playoff champions) 4- Braga (EL) 5-Estoril (EL) 6- Nacional (EL) |

| Yesterday, the Cyprus Football Association made an anouncement that they are not willing to use the loosing Cup Finalist spot in case the Champion or second team in the league win the Cup as well. Instead the CW spot will go to the next best team in the league. As far as I am concerned they can't do that because it is clearly stated in Europa League Regulations for the cycle 2012-15 that the Cup Finalist should replace the CW if the CW will participate in the Champions League. Am I right? Is the CFA violating UEFA regulations here? |
Author: Forza-AZ
Date: 13-02-2014, 09:07
| They indeed can't do that. UEFA's rule is valid for all 54 national federations. Only way the Cyprus FA could get around this is to not give the losing Cup finalist a licence (but that club would protest that I assume). |

| Thanks Forza-AZ for the confirmation. I have tried sending them an e-mail about the issue but the haven't responsed. And I am sure that if we have a situation in which the CW will participate in the CL, they will find their selves in a messy situation. |

| Seventh place in the Spanish league now carries with it qualification for the EL, since Real Madrid and Barça, the finalists in the Copa, will both qualify for next season's CL.
Currently Sevilla and Valencia are tied for seventh with 31 points each; Sevilla is technically seventh, having scored more goals (they're even on GD). They play each other at 21:00 CET this Sunday, Feb. 16, in the Sánchez Pizjuan; Valencia won the first meeting in Mestalla 3-1 in September. |

| There have been interesting (and chaotic) developments in the Latvian Virslīga, with repercussions for their qualifiers for 2014/15.
Skonto Riga (2nd in 2013) and Daugava Daugavpils (3rd) have both had their licences rejected, have lost their appeals, and have so been kicked out of the Virslīga and will lose their European qualification places. According to Baltic football blog onenilup.com, the European slots will pass to Daugava Riga (4th) and Jūrmala (6th). Liepājas Metalurgs, who came 5th last year, have been liquidated and no longer exist. So the league is running with only eight teams this year, starting this weekend.
The 2014/15 qualifier from the Latvian Cup hasn't been decided yet, but Skonto, Daugava Daugavpils and Liepājas Metalurgs all got to the quarter-finals, as did Ventspils (1st), Daugava Riga and Jūrmala. The only teams in the quarter-finals not already qualified or disqualified are Jelgava (8th) and Gulbene (1. Līga), so it could either be one of them or presumably Spartaks Jūrmala (7th) if the slot has to go to another team based on league placing.

| juventus is already qualified for european football. they are 1st(heavily favored to win their 3rd straight championship) and can only be passed(in theory) by the next 5 teams. but in those 5 teams are included napoli and fiorentina(cup finalists), so in that case the 6th(juve) will go in europe. |

| The situation here in Latvia is disastrous. I've been going to see the Skonto games for a few years now and that's a big downer. It also won't be good for the league's coefficient or profile, it's already way behind ice hockey and basketball in popularity. |

| In Belgium, a maximum of one team will need the country coefficient. Both cup finalists, and all 6 Play Off A teams had European experiance (and points) in last 5 years.
Only possibility for a team needing the country minimum is that the winner of Play Off B will eliminate the number 4 of Play off A in their final duel. |

| In Latvia, Skonto and Daugava Daugavpils won their appeal and will now compete in the Virsliga and presumably, as a result, the Europa league.
