With La Liga, Premiership and Bundesliga as Top 3, and Serie A not in shape to improve its position but likely to keep the 4th spot, how can possibly evolve the UEFA ranking for positions 5th to 13th in the next few seasons?
5 Por 56.133 5/6 - Primeira Liga: Porto, Benfica, Sporting, Braga..
6 Fra 52.166 4/6 - Ligue 1: PSG, Monaco, Marseille, Lyon, Lille..
7 Rus 42.665 5/6 - Russia Premier: CSKA, Zenit, Anzhi, Spartak, Lokomotiv, Rubin..
8 Net 41.146 3/6 - Eredivisie: Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, Twente, AZ, Vitesse, Heerenveen..
9 Ukr 37.466 4/6 - Ukraine Premier: Shakhtar, Dynamo, Metalist, Dnipro, Chornomorets..
Which of those leagues today 5th to 9th do you think having the average quality of clubs to potentially increase its coefficient and gain one or few positions in the ranking in the following seasons?

Which of those instead you believe could risk to lose its actual spot in the next years?

In the next seasons, it is a reasonably more likely scenario, that one of these countries closes the gap with the countries above, or one of the following ones (as Turkey, Greece, Belgium or Switzerland) catches up with one of these countries (or joins the whole group)?

Please if possible tell the reason suggesting you your prediction or opinion (example: data on local economy, local generation of player, data on local clubs management, recent local federation decisions, data on new infrastructures, new TV rights deals, specific events, ...).

I'm just wondering how the Uefa Ranking could evolve behind the Top spots in the next few seasons.

Cheers!

I think the most best chance to climb up the ranking to fifth place is Russia. This is evidenced transfermarket: the average cost of the players
Russia - 2.998.529 ˆ,
France - 2.801.371 ˆ,
Portugal - 1.953.855 ˆ,
Ukraine - 1.628.897 ˆ,
Netherlands - 1.055.051 ˆ.
However, in Russia there is a problem of rotation of clubs participating in European competition. For example, next season may nonparticipation Rubin and CSKA Moscow, in addition, of the national cup flew many potentially strong clubs.
Also worth noting Your Anzhi actually "abandoned" the owner (the team in last place in their league).
Despite the potential, France has problems with taxation, which could lead to an outflow of investment.
My personal opinion is that Portugal planned a recession.
Ukraine had a good chance to fight for sixth place. But the ban of the Metaliist blew it.

Added some data to your table. A similar table for Germany would likely show about the opposite trend.
Year #1 #2 #3 #4 QF Clubs QF%
2005 3 - - 1 3 4 75%
2006 3 - 1 - 3 4 75%

2010 1 2 1 - 3 4 75%
2011 - 3 - - 3 3 100%
2012 1 2 - - 3 3 100%

Just for my own interest : Germany
Year #1 #2 #3 #4 QF Clubs QF%
2005 1 2 - - 3 3 100%
2006 - 2 1 - 2 3 67%
2007 1 - 1 1 1 3 33%
2008 - 1 1 1 1 3 33%
2009 1 - 1 - 1 2 50% (Schalke out vs. Atletico in Q4)
2010 - 2 1 - 2 3 67%
2011 2 - - 1 2 3 67%
2012 1 1 - 1 2 3 67%
2013 3 - - - 3 3 100% (Gladbach out vs. Kiew in Q4)
2014 2 2 - - 4 4 100%

That's a strict percentage-raise since 2007 from 33 to 100.

Hi,

Before the Europa League matches this evening, here is the current 2015 Country ranking (that is to say, current point minus 2009/2010 coef):
4th: Portugal 47.800
5th: Italy 47.177
6th: Russia 39.166
7th: France 39.000
8th: Netherlands 33.563
So, Italy and France may temporarily lose the 4th and the 6th place (Portugal is the equivalent of 2 victories ahead of Italy, Russia is the equivalent of 1 draw ahead of France).

As for the 2016 Country ranking:
Italy may regain the 4th spot(35.606)
Portugal, France and Russia are tight (respectively 29.000 / 28.250 / 28.250)

I think, even though France is facing tax problems, Paris SG and Monaco will give the country enough momentum to regain the 5th place by 2016. Also, the French professional football association may give a reward to clubs that play well in Europa League, as no French club find it interesting for the moment.

@lachosestroggo

Interesting opinions.

Italy losing the 4th spot in 2015 it is unlikely. It wouldn't be surprising if in the final 2015 ranking Italy will drop further away from 3rd place, but finishing about 2 points ahead over the 5th.

As often discussed on this forum, Uefa Ranking is more about average quality rather than peak performances.

Taking a couple of names from each of the top Serie A clubs:
Juventus: Tevez, Pirlo.
Milan: Balotelli, Kaka.
Napoli: Higuain, Hamsik.
Roma: Totti, De Rossi.
Fiorentina: Gomez, Rossi.
Inter: Zanetti, Palacio.
Lazio: Klose, Hernanez.

Except for La Liga, Premiership, and Bundesliga, in other leagues I see no more than a couple of clubs (for each league) having a comparable quality. And the Uefa matches results reflects this.

So even if in average weaker than La Liga, Premiership, and Bundesliga sides, Serie A clubs are in average more likely to achieve the spring phase of European competitions, compared to clubs from the others (lower ranked) leagues.

Serie A quality dropped quite a bit, but on my books the league still reasonably safe from the concurrency of the following countries, to likely defend its 4th place in the Uefa Ranking in the few next seasons.

Just my two cents.

Cheers!

Thanks for your input !

« Italy losing the 4th spot in 2015 it is unlikely »

I completely agree with you on that. But still, that’s currently the case. Anyway, that won’t take long before Portugal is dropped away since it seems to be at a maximum (they still get the 18,000 points from 2011, which is not a usual performance for them). And for the spring phase, Italy will have AC Milan, Napoli, Fiorentina, Juventus and Lazio to leave Portugal far behind. So yes, it is unlikely !

« Uefa Ranking is more about average quality rather than peak performances. »

I agree too. As for the competition for the 5th, it is going to be harsh, but I see France outrunning Russia and Portugal.

Contrary to Portugal, France seems to be at a minimum right now and they are not out of the race for the 5th spot(Marseille was defeated 6 times, Lyon didn’t access the Champion’s League, Bordeaux lost 5 out 6 games, St Etienne and Nice didn’t pass the last play-off round).

A lot of Ligue 1 clubs had to sell their best players last year due to economical reasons (taxation, stadiums renovations for Euro 2016). For example, Lyon sold Lisandro, Lloris and couldn't recruit any good players. They are building a new stadium for Euro 2016 and have to be wise. A lot of young players have been introduced this season and they don’t have a very competitive squad.

So in the next few years, I think Italy will stay 4th, France will get the 5th spot and Portugal and Russia will fight for the 6th.

@lachosestroggo

It toke a decade for Abramovich's Chelsea to win a CL. But in that decade the club was constantly reaching at least the QF or so in CL.

If PSG and/or Monaco are going to be long term projects as Chelsea, and they menage to reach the top 8 clubs of Europe with reasonable constancy, then in few years (say 3-5 seasons from now) the whole Ligue 1 could gain prestige, interest, more money from TVs, quality, and likely even menace Serie A for the 4th spot in the Uefa ranking.

If instead in a couple of seasons the owners of PSG and Monaco will somehow abandon their ambitious projects (as for Anji/Anzhi or Malaga), then it will be more likely for France to still battling for the 5th spot against few other countries as Portugal or Russia.

Just my two cents.

Cheers!

What seems clear.

If until May 2015, France doesn't manage to pass Russia or Portugal, in the 2016/17 CL, only the french Champion will be qualified for CL group stage, and the second has to play 2 qualification rounds to get in. The third will be "only" EL.
This would be very desastrous for France with projects like PSG and Monaco, which won't be automatically in the CL , even when finishing in Top2 of the table. Actually the investors are investing cause they know that championsleague will be at the end of the season. If it's no more guaranteed, i wonder if they'll still invest in Falcaos or Cavanis.
There is more than one season left to pass Russia again.....(or Portugal). Let'0s hope they'll do it. It begins by taking seriously even EL-games (French teams never do), and good results from PSG and Lyon this year.

"So in the next few years, I think Italy will stay 4th, France will get the 5th spot and Portugal and Russia will fight for the 6th."
I hope you are right, but in the 2014/15 ranking, France is now at 7th place only......

About Russia and France. The current 2015 coef is:
6th Russia 39.666
7th France 39.333

Let's not forget France will get 8 bonus points and Russia 4 bonus points for the group phase of C1. If we add those already known bonuses, the 2015 ranking is:

6th France 40.666
7th Russia 40.333

But Russia will have two more teams in qualifying rounds, so they could gain more points than France before the group phase.
Last summer, Russia took 14,5 points (+2.416 coef) and France 5 (+0.833 coef)

Interesting points of view!

I think that the battle for 6th in the 2014/2015 Ranking still really open.
-- 2015 ------------------------------------------------------
6 Russia 39.666 +0.000 3/6 (40.333 with sure bonus points)
7 France 39.333 -0.333 2/6 (40.666 with sure bonus points)
--------------------------------------------------------------
8 Ukraine 34.333 -5.333 4/6 (35.000 with sure bonus points)
9 Neth'ds 33.730 -5.936 2/6 (34.396 with sure bonus points)
--------------------------------------------------------------
This season France still has 2 clubs left, Russia 3, Ukraine 4, and Netherlands 2; and there is another full season ahead. With a perfect 1+1/2 season from now to the end of the 2014/15 season, even Ukraine and Netherlands could join the battle. Not too likely, but it could happen.

And the situation could be even more balanced in the 2015/16 ranking, with Russia and France getting way closer to Portugal, losing the 18.800 points from the 2010/11 season.
-- 2016 ----------
1 Spain 52.285
2 England 46.035
3 Germany 45.749
------------------
4 Italy 36.106
------------------
5 Port'al 29.166
6 Russia 28.750
7 France 28.583
------------------
8 Ukraine 24.250
9 Belgium 22.800
10 Neth'ds 22.564
11 Turkey 21.800
12 Czech R 20.250
13 Switz'd 19.775
------------------
14 Romania 18.008
15 Greece 17.700
16 Austria 16.175
17 Cyprus 15.875
18 Israel 14.750
------------------
And all this was the reason for this whole topic: I'd like to know which not Top 3 countries people think would be rising in the next few seasons, and the reasons for them to think so.

Cheers!

Best Wishes!

in the 2016 ranking, France is again ahead of Portugal, but till then, there is a long way to go. Important will be now for Paris (and Lyon) to make a maximum of points). Paris can make very very much points this year.....i see them capable to go to the final. and then next year, french teams have to
1) keep their players
2) take EL for serious
then France will soon be again Number 4 (with Monaco rising too), and even see higher in a few years.

Thank you François Hollande, French football is dead. They jhust introduced the 75% tax on the big salaries......
Thank you again, Hollande, you killed french football.
So french clubs never can keep their good players and pay them........

There should be a UEFA regulation on this. Same taxes for all countries !....they did very bad with Bosman, they could do good now.......

There should be a UEFA regulation on this. Same taxes for all countries !

I doubt Uefa has any authority on how the European governments should handle their fiscal issues. And I don't see why it should have.

....they did very bad with Bosman, they could do good now.......

Was it fair that an European citizen wasn't allowed to play anywhere in Europe as a professional footballer just because its former club refused to find an agreement to release him? Was Bosman a person, or it was a toy in possession of someone who bought it?

I think Bosman sentence was for the good of people freedom in general.

Just my two cents, of course.

anyways, after refelction, i could even be benefit of French football internationally (but not locally). see Bundesliga. Some boring each weekend, but they win trophys (well only Bayern). It could be the same with France now, Paris and Monaco dominating all, the rest beeing average, but the two winning thophies....... . Okay, we won't have this interesting Ligue 1 and will have a Bundesliga-like championship, where it's clear who will be champion, ...the price to pay?
