Edited by: Lorric at: 31-08-2013, 04:47 | We've got a new battle now.
11th - Turkey - 30.000 2/5 12th - Switzerland - 29.025 3/5 13th - Greece - 29.000 2/5
Switzerland with 3 teams can put pressure on the others, while Greece will be looking to catch Turkey. Who will end on 13th? Let's have a look at the teams. Each country has a CL team.
Turkey
CL - Galatasaray (Real Madrid, Juventus, Copenhagen) I think they have a strong chance of EL football.
EL - Trabzonspor (Lazio, Legia arsaw, Apollon) I think they are favoured to advance.
Switzerland
CL - Basel (Chelsea, Schalke, Steaua) Unpredictable...
EL - St. Gallen (Valencia, Swansea, Kuban Krasnodar) They're going to have a hard time here, but they already disposed of a higher ranked Russian team...
EL - Thun (Dynamo Kiev, Genk, Rapid Wien) They should collect points here. They might even be able to advance, though they're not favourites.
Greece
CL - Olympiakos (Benfica, PSG, Anderlecht) Good draw. Maybe they could sneak into the KO stage. They could also end up last.
EL - PAOK (AZ Alkmaar, Maccabi Haifa, Shakhter Karagandy) They got an excellent draw. I wouldn't put it past them to win this group. Or go out. |

| Since Turkey has about 1.000 advantage, they are still favourites for me to stay 11th. |

Edited by: SirHenri at: 19-09-2013, 13:40 | Yeah, Bert's graphs are great for such research !
It happened 1960 as well. Even 10th place.
Still it would be quite an achievement fpr the Swiss, of course.
edit : The best rank ever is 1958 / 1959, where they ended 7th. (the UEFA rankings for those years (until 1978) are missed at Bert's page somehow, or am I just blind ?!?) |

| Perfect week for Switzerland. Three teams, three victories. PAOK and Trabzonspor also picked up wins, all Europa teams won.
11th - Turkey - 30.400 2/5 12th - Switzerland - 30.225 3/5 13th - Greece - 29.400 2/5 |

| Turkey pull away with Galatasaray's draw. Greece close in on Switzerland with Olympiakos' win:
11th - Turkey - 30.600 2/5 12th - Switzerland - 30.225 3/5 13th - Greece - 29.800 2/5
So the race is now tighter, just 0.800 between the three...
Europa League tomorrow! |

| So, Trabzonspor drew and PAOK drew. Turkey pull further clear of Switzerland, but the gap between the three nations remains at 0.800.
11th - Turkey - 30.800 2/5 12th - Switzerland - 30.225 3/5 13th - Greece - 30.000 2/5 |

| Prediction:
I believe after this week's result, Turkey and Greece are near safe. Greece's biggest advantage is Olympiacos' possible progress in the knock-out round and 5 bonus points. PAOK will probably be "seeded" in the knock-out draw and looks strong at least on the offense.
Same goes with Galata and Trabzon, though Galata will probably continue in Europa.
For the Swiss, Basel will probably continue in Europa, but I can't see them doing exceptionally well there. St Gallen may score another win and draw, but will not qualify. Thun has more chance but they'll have to get over the loss from Kiev quickly. |
