Please use the correct name for SS Lazio

Firts off, your website is a wonderful and invaluable tool for every european football fan.
But why don't you use the correct naming for SS Lazio? It is the only italian team listed with the city name added. It is totally arbitrary on your part. You don't use formats like "Juventus Torino" or "Arsenal London".
So why you feel the need for "Lazio Roma"? The official name of the team is SS Lazio and since there is no other team in europe named like that, there is no need to add "Roma".
Moreover the other footbal team in Rome is incidentally called Roma as well, for which you adopt the correct naming "AS Roma".
Please do the same for SS Lazio, nowhere in the official team naming appears the word Roma, so neither it should appear on here.

Thanks

This subject has been discussed many times in this forum, see e.g. 2011, 2005, and 2002.

Main reason is I don't use official names but common names. And I know it's rather subjective what is common. In this part of the world it's quite usual to use Lazio Roma, and no-one would ever use PSV Eindhoven (though sometimes it changes like AZ Alkmaar seems to be common now). And yes, I agree, that the case of Lazio is a bit special cause the name of the town is equal to the name of the other team from Roma.

I am pretty happy, thast "lazio Rome" is used. While Arsenal (wich in my mind also is Arsenal LONDON - yes i am from germany!) is common enogh for me to localice them automatically to england's caprial i need to think think somewhat more whre from "Lazio", "Celtic" or "Benfica" . I'm not deep enogh into italian soccer to be 100% sure that there is only one lazio, that one from rome. Maybe there is a small team like "Lacio San Marino" or "Lazio whatever" wich made it into european soccer?

And what is the problem in adding the City? it is additional, useful information - es specially for those, who are no european soccer experts. Or shuold it say "SS Lacio, from Rome", just to be correct?

I totally agree with the TS. When I decide on how to write a club name, I use the following steps:

1) The official name.
2) Does the club names tells us where the club is from? Note: this doesn't necessarily have to be a town / city.
3) If "No" on 2 --> From which town / city is the club from?
4) Use the exonym of the location, if the endonym is used in the club name. If there is more than one location in the club name e.g. Bayern München, only one location is translated if necessary, preferably the city / town name.
5) Shorten names, if possible.

Here a number of examples:

1) SS Lazio
2) Yes, they're from Lazio.
3) N/A
4) Lazio is both exonym and endonym.
5) N/A --> Name used: SS Lazio.

1) AS Roma
2) Yes, they're from Rome.
3) N/A
4) Rome is both the English and Dutch exonym.
5) N/A --> Name used: AS Rome.

1) Sporting Clube de Portugal - Futebol
2) Yes, they're from Portugal
3) N/A
4) Portugal is both exonym and endonym.
5) Abbreviate "Sporting Clube" --> Name used: SC Potugal.

1) Arsenal FC
2) No.
3) They're from London.
4) Endonym = English. (In Dutch Londen)
5) N/A --> Name used: Arsenal London (in English), Arsenal Londen (in Dutch)

1) FC Nordsjælland
2) Yes, they are from North Zealand.
3) N/A
4) English exonym: North Zealand, Duth exonym: Noord-Seeland.
5) N/A --> Name used: FC North Zealand (in English), FC Noord-Seeland (in Dutch)

1) FC Bayern München
2) Yes, they are from Munich, but also from Bavaria.
3) N/A
4) München is the city name. English exonym: Munich, Dutch exonym = endonym.
5) FC is dropped --> Name used: Bayern Munich (in English), Bayern München (in Dutch)

1) AC Milan (also Genoa CFC)
2) Yes, they are from Milan (Genoa)
3) N/A
4) No endonym used, instead the English exonym is used.
5) N/A --> Name used: AC Milan (Genoa CFC), also in Dutch even if the Dutch exonym of Milan and Genoa is Milaan and Genua.

There is no correct name for SS Lazio, it all depends on where you're from. There is only 1 official name, but as Bert Kassies still isn't paid by UEFA, he can do whatever he likes and i guess we should keep it that way.

(it helps we in Belgium have the same use of names for teams like Arsenal, Lazio Roma, ... )
