| We have a novelty in Romania Liga 1 Steaua Bucharest boss today was sentenced to prison for corruption, so the team will be judged by UEFA and could risk being excluded from the model Fenerbahce. |

Edited by: executor at: 04-06-2013, 20:43 | There's no similarity with Fenerbahce's case.
Firstly, officially, there's no connection between Gigi Becali and Steaua. Yes, his money supports Steaua, but it comes through his relatives.
Secondly, what Gigi did wasn't against the spirit of the game. He stimulated U Cluj to win vs CFR, not to lose.
So, adding these two we get very low chances for Steaua to be punished. Yes, the court labeled the money as bribe and UEFA reacts hard in such cases, but I have big doubts they'll take such a drastic measure without something concrete linking Steaua to this case. |

| Becali held 27% stake in 2008. He dropped them on 20 January 2010. So in this case he runs the club and acts in that time the club holding percentages, surely UEFA will take note of this story. We know very well that UEFA does not tolerate acts of corruption, racism, doping |

| OK, I don't know Becali's situation in May 2008, as our press has conflicting views on this, but there might be a problem for Steaua after all. And that is because the vicepresident of the club at that time, Teia Sponte, was also convicted in this case, with 2 years in jail, suspended. He was the one who was supposed to deliver the money. So, now there IS a connection between Steaua and the "bribery". Remains to be seen if UEFA will consider it a bribery, too. |

| We must also mention that was just an attempt to give money. Becali promised the money but because the score was 0-1 the money never get to u cluj players.
If Uefa will judge themselve this case the risk for Steaua is 5%. But if they will judge something like, Ok the romanian court find becali guilty we cannot pass this decision, steaua is in a very bad situation.
In other countries how this type of cases is treated? I heared that in some leagues this things are common. I mean in the last 2-3 rounds some teams giving money to another teams that plays with their rivals to help them win the title, avoinding the relegation getting european spots etc. Is this true? I really waiting for some opinions from other country members on this forum. This is very important because uefa can not allow some teams do that and punish others for same thing. |

| Every championship matches buy, but in this case the vice-president of the club was caught with money in fact organs of justice, so they have no excuse in this case, in other cases if you were caught without proof, were discovered in his money in match day, and Justice held after as long as they were acts of corruption.
In the domestic league, there was courage of the federation or of the football league because of the brand in Romania there are many acts of corruption but that's the truth not have the courage to touch the football club Steaua Bucharest. If you see certain statements and assumptions that President football leagues can make you stay shocked.
Unfortunately, Romania is struggling domestic league a incredible amateurism.
That is simply my opinion. |

You should definitely suggest Google a better translation
So, things started to look a bit grim for Steaua. Now that it was (re)discovered that Gigi Becali still had shares at the club + the vicepresident also being convicted, it's only a question of how UEFA will interpret it:
a) a court in Romania labeled the case as "bribery" so we trust them and expell Steaua
b) a court in Romania labeled the case as "bribery" but we are not that convinced about it.
Anyway, the danger is real. Now, if Steaua is expelled, that would create an unforseen problem, as the president of the runner-up, Pandurii Târgu-Jiu, just declared that he is too scared to play in CL He would like to concede its eventual place to Petrolul. Of course, that's not possible and Pandurii will have to be pushed from behind into the lions' pit called CLQR2. I can already imagine them clinging by their fingernails at the last support... |

| Pandurii can refuse to play CL, but then they also can't play EL. So they will never do so. |

Edited by: Lorric at: 07-06-2013, 01:44 | What the... what kind of rubbish is that?! If amateur teams can go into the CL and get crushed, how can they be afraid to go in? There's money to be made! And the opposition aren't that formidable on the Champions Path, I don't think Romania's 2nd best club would be getting dismantled by anyone, Romania is one of the strongest leagues on the Champions Path. Why compete in the league if you're not going to claim the prize? There are stronger teams in the ELQs. |

Typical Romanian mid-table team mentality. Of course he tried to fix it in the end by saying that Petrolul has more chances in CL than them, which may be true, but if you're the president of Pandurii you just can't say that.
Unfortunately mid-table teams like Pandurii might declare that they'd like to play Eurogames, but once they get there, they realize it's a task too demanding for them and then they wish to go back playing just L1 games. Gaz Metan was the only exception. Sad, but true. |

Edited by: Lorric at: 07-06-2013, 15:57 | That's weird. If you're the president of Pandurii, all that should matter is Pandurii. And why would Petrolul have a better chance if they finished beneath Pandurii in the table?
Do you know why the Bucharest clubs (except Steaua) and other names like CFR Cluj have dropped away anyway? I've been wondering that. Mid-table teams aren't mid-table anymore.
If I was a fan I'd be disgusted by this gutless coward. They should be dreaming of the Champions League and the money, Romania is one of the strongest leagues on the Champions Path, they'd have a shot at getting into the GS wouldn't they? Though an outside one since they'd be unseeded all the way. The top seeds would surely be too much for them. But if they avoided them in the first couple of rounds they might get to play in the ELGS. Romania is new to the Champions Path, so I've no idea what region they'll end up in. But do you think they could put away a couple of lower seeds? |

| There've been a lot different CL representatives from Romania in recent years, and only two i've seen "vanish", Unirea and Timisoara. Pandurii should try there in case this Steaua affair goes into full consequence. Isn't the appeal of the CL the money prize inolved? Are the expenses of travel and licensing so big that they overmatch those prizes? |

| ``Proceedings have also been opened against Steaua Bucharest after their owner Gigi Becali was jailed for three years for offering a cash bribe to rival players to a throw a match.`` Well, that`s quite different than offering cash to try to win. |

| This is a completely FALSE information. Steaua owner was found guilty only because he offered that money to U Cluj to WIN that game. |

Well, I've seen you getting upset on Forum 2 (on the WC qualifiers thread) about journalists doing a sloppy job. This is just another example of that. The key phrase is missing a 'NOT':
Proceedings have also been opened against Steaua Bucharest after their owner Gigi Becali was jailed for three years for offering a cash bribe to rival players NOT to a throw a match. |
