The Improvers - better each year last 5 years

How many countries have got better year on year for all 5 years? Here's the list:

Switzerland - 2.900 5.750 5.900 6.000 8.375
Sweden - 2.500 2.500 2.600 2.900 5.125
Slovenia - 1.333 1.375 1.500 2.250 3.250
Luxembourg - 0.000 0.250 0.625 1.125 1.375

Do you think any of them can keep this up and make it 6 consecutive improvements?

Slovenia actually already have a chain of 6:

0.666 1.333 1.375 1.500 2.250 3.250

Nice chains, I'll keep an eye on those

Slovenia has a good chance for their 7th year, due to their small steps.
Same thing for Luxemburg, I'm pretty sure they will improve a bit more.

For Switzerland it will be quite hard to improve, now that they have 5 teams and have to overcome a very good year. But possible as well.

Sweden ... 5 teams as well, they will need at least 2 group stage-teams for this mission.

For Slovenia it will all depend on Maribor as all other clubs in the country are too much behind in all aspects when compared to them. So if Maribor fails in CLQR2 Slovenia chances are 0 to get a seventh year of improvement.

About Sweden I don't think it can be considered an improvement. They were much better in the old days; they have been doing very poorly in the last years (just a bit less poorly recently...).

In Switzerland Sion seems like missing the EL, while there is the money to make a nice run, so tough for Swiss

Young Boys Bern will probably miss the EL spots too.

It's time for the club list.

These are the only "true" improvers on the list:

Steaua Bucharest - 4.5284 5.2166 5.6332 6.8666 13.3600
NK Maribor - 0.2666 1.7750 1.8000 2.4500 3.6500
Valletta - 0.000 0.6500 0.8000 1.1666 1.1750

All these are qualified for Europe and have the opportunity to improve again. Can they?

The rise of Slovenia's top club is surely why Slovenia itself has risen these past 6 years.

I'm going to break these down, starting with Steaua.

08/09, they defeated Galatasaray and entered the CLGS. There they collected a single point through a draw with Fiorentina.

09/10, they defeated Ujpest, Motherwell and St. Patrick’s Athletic to qualify to the ELGS. There they drew twice with both Sheriff and Twente to collect 4pts. Finished bottom of the group.

10/11, they defeated Grasshopper to qualify for the ELGS. There they drew with Liverpool, Napoli and Utrecht and also beat Utrecht to collect 5pts and claim third place.

11/12, they defeated CSKA Sofia to qualify for the ELGS. There they drew with Schalke and AEK Larnaca, and beat AEK Larnaca and Maccabi Haifa to collect 6pts and claim second place. They lost both legs to Twente in the last 32.

12/13, they defeated Spartak Trnava and Ekranas to qualify for the ELGS. There they drew with Stuttgart and Copenhagen and beat Copenhagen and Molde twice to claim 8pts and win the group. In the last 32 they beat Ajax on penalties. In the last 16 they beat Chelsea but lost the tie.

13/14, back in the Champions League. CLQ2. Will they improve again?

Maribor

08/09 - Didn’t qualify.

09/10 - CLQ2, beat WIT Georgia. Q3, lost to Zurich. Q4, lost to Sparta Prague.

10/11 - ELQ2, beat Videoton. Q3, beat Hibernian. Q4, lost to Palermo (won the first leg)

11/12 - CLQ2, beat Dudelange. Q3, lost to Maccabi Haifa. ELQ4, beat Rangers. ELGS, got 1pt off Braga.

12/13 - CLQ2, beat Zeljeznicar. Q3, beat Dudelange. Q4, lost to Dinamo Zagreb. ELGS, beat Panathinaikos and drew with Tottenham.

Valetta

08/09 - CLQ1, lost to Artmedia.

09/10 - ELQ1, beat Keflavik. Q2, lost to St. Patrick’s Athletic.

10/11 - Q2, lost to Ruch Chorzow (only on away goals)

11/12 - CLQ1, beat Tre Fiori. Q2, lost to Ekranas.

12/13 - CLQ1, beat Lusitanos. Q2, lost to Partizan.

Valletta is a bit of a stretch, but I think it was worth listing. They certainly haven't got any worse.

Honourable mentions:

NSI Runavik - 0.0666 0.2500 0.3000 0.3500 0.3500 (only because the Faroese coefficient rises as they get KOd in ELQ1 every year)
Viktoria Plzen - 0.4750 0.8200 1.7000 10.0500 15.7000 (3 years in Europe)
Videoton - 0.2000 0.5500 1.0500 1.4500 4.6000 (3 years in Europe)
Khazar Lenkoran - 0.1332 0.3000 0.6500 0.7750 1.1000 (3 years in Europe)
Shakhtyor Karaganda - 0.1666 0.2500 0.4250 0.8250 1.2750 (3 years in Europe)
FC Lusitanos - 0.000 0.1000 0.2500 0.2500 0.5000 (3 years in Europe)

If Steaua get into the GS of the CL and Romania make more than 4.5 pts, they will need a win or two draws in the group to make 6.9 pts. Given they will be seeded all the way in the QR and the early start of the three teams in the EL both look feasible.

Have you somehow missed the 13.360 on the end of Steaua's record? They're going to need to carry on past Christmas to beat that.

The Swedish participants this year are ranked: 2, 5, 6, 7, 9 in National/European ranking.

I have a hard time seen Häcken (7) & particularly Gefle (Fair play) (9) doing much at all.

Elfsborg (2) CL-Qual - Maybe EL-group in best case. (But they got knocked out in the 3rd round of EL-Qual last year)

Malmö (5) & Göteborg (6) will have a hard time reaching the group stages in EL - Malmö did so two years ago from the CL-Qualification round. But this is a much harder route. And I think GBG need more routine of European play first, before they will reach any further.

Both AIK & Helsingborg who where in the EL-group last time are not in this years Qualifications. And also not Kalmar (3) who at least reached EL-Q round 3 last year.

So I seriously doubt that Sweden will continue its "run" (Hope I'm wrong tho)
