Rigid seeded CL group stage

On forum 2 (which I am not registered to) UCL_Lover states:

"Why actually make a draw for Group Stage and not pair groups like that according to their seeding (no. 1-no.32)?"

A: 1 - 16 - 17 - 32
B: 8 - 9 - 24 - 25
C: 4 - 13 - 20 - 29
D: 5 - 12 - 21 - 28
E: 2 - 15 - 18 - 31
F: 7 - 10 - 23 - 26
G: 3 - 14 - 19 - 30
H: 6 - 11 - 22 - 27

Now, I DON'T want this to happen. But what I'm thinking is, if you're going to talk about this, aren't those seedings wrong? It's all about getting out of the group, not coming first. The top seed has the hardest task to get out of the group but the easiest to win it going by those numbers. Wouldn't it be better to go like this...

A: 1 - 9 - 24 - 32
B: 2 - 10 - 23 - 31
C: 3 - 11 - 22 - 30
D: 4 - 12 - 21 - 29
E: 5 - 13 - 20 - 28
F: 6 - 14 - 19 - 27
G: 7 - 15 - 18 - 26
H: 8 - 16 - 17 - 25

I am also curious how it would have turned out this year. UCL_Lover:

A: Chelsea, Dynamo Kiev, Olympiakos, Nordjaelland
B: Barcelona, Braga, Ajax, Montpellier
C: Manchester United, Manchester City, Anderlecht, Malaga
D: Bayern, Schalke, Juventus, Cluj
E: Real Madrid, Zenit, Spartak Moscow, Dinamo Zagreb
F: Arsenal, Shakhtar Donetsk, PSG, BATE Borisov
G: Porto, Benfica, Lille, Dortmund
H: AC Milan, Valencia, Galatasaray, Celtic

Me:

A: Chelsea, Valencia, Galatasaray, Nordjaelland
B: Barcelona, Benfica, Lille, Montpellier
C: Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, PSG, Malaga
D: Bayern, Zenit, Spartak Moscow, Cluj
E: Real Madrid, Schalke, Juventus, Dinamo Zagreb
F: Arsenal, Manchester City, Anderlecht, BATE Borisov
G: Porto, Braga, Ajax, Dortmund
H: AC Milan, Dynamo Kiev, Olympiakos, Celtic

I don't like seeing all those same country pairings. 7/16 groups have them. 5/7 it's the top 2 seeds.

I don't want this to happen either Lorric, but for fun let's take your idea a stage further.

So you go down the seeds from 1 to 32 placing them in the Groups as you suggest. However, you have country protection so if a team is scheduled to go in a group which already has a compatriot team, then the team swaps with the next seed below it that can go in that group...

This could get complicated of course, but in your example it all works out. For example Man City swap with Braga...

The groups you then get are:

A: Chelsea, Valencia, Galatasaray, Montpellier
B: Barcelona, Benfica, Lille, Nordjaelland
C: Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, Spartak Moscow, Malaga
D: Bayern, Zenit, PSG, Cluj
E: Real Madrid, Schalke, Juventus, Dinamo Zagreb
F: Arsenal, Braga, Anderlecht, BATE Borisov
G: Porto, Manchester City, Ajax, Dortmund
H: AC Milan, Dynamo Kiev, Olympiakos, Celtic

That seems OK actually...

Ha ha ha. Maybe Manchester City would rip Porto apart like they did I think last year in the Europa League, only to be soundly defeated by Dortmund and Ajax like this year and still be denied the Last 16.
