Today, I made my first check on their progress. No matches have been played since the point deduction, action picks back up this weekend in the Swiss league though. But then, I see this:

Looks like they'll be just fine after all.
They might get out off the bottom if they play hard. Or they have the surreal option of simply using the entire season (except for the Swiss Cup which they're still in) as a warm up for a relegation playoff.
It's a very interesting scenario. Either play hard and try and get off the bottom, or play gentle, and mess around with player selections and tactics and formations, and prepare for the relegation playoff, while also playing hard in the Swiss Cup in an effort to win the thing. Could you imagine that, win the Swiss Cup and the relegation playoff, and stick two fingers up at everybody and be right back in Europe the next season with a trophy in the cabinet and still in the top league. They're in the quarter finals against lower league opposition. It's a very realistic possibility.
They're also reigning and defending champions. The last 6 cups have been split 3 each between themselves and Basel.
I've learned some interesting things here. Sion have been in the final of this cup 12 times. They won all 12 of them. That's quite a stat. |
