Edited by: ferdi at: 20-06-2011, 11:45 | In the Seeding in the Europa League 2011/2012 document, there are two dashed lines in the Q4 section, one between Lokomotiv Moscow and PAOK Thessaloniki, and one between Vorskla Poltava and FC Vaslui.
I understand the first line indicates that Lokomotiv Moscow will be seeded for sure, while PAOK Thessaloniki, if they reach this round, might not be seeded, depending on results from other teams in the previous rounds.
But the line between Vorskla Poltava and FC Vaslui seems to make less sense to me. Obviously there are no less than 25 seeded teams in ELQ3 which have a better coefficient than FC Vaslui. So if only 16 of them are eliminated in ELQ3, (and all seeded teams from CLQ3 reach CLQ4,) then Vaslui would be seeded.
If we further take into account that many champions with a very low coefficient could still reach CLQ3, being eliminated there and thus reaching ELQ4, and also teams from ELQ1 and ELQ2 with a very low coefficient could reach ELQ4, I come to the conclusion that at the moment none of the teams listed in the ELQ4 table is for sure unseeded if they reach this round.
So what is the meaning of the dashed line between Vorskla Poltava and FC Vaslui? |

| ferdi, you are right. The dashed line in the left column is clear. There was some reasoning behind the dashed line in the unseeded column, but I can't reproduce it, and it was probably not right. So, that dashed line is removed. |

| Was it that Vaslui and below are definitely unseeded, and those above have a theoretical chance of being seeded if enough upsets occur to eliminate higher coefficient teams before this stage? |

There is in principle no difference between the situation of Poltava and Vaslui, only that Vaslui needs 16 "surprises" out of 25 possibilities in ELQ3, while Poltava needs only 15 out of possible 24 (both times provided there are no counter-surprises from CLQ3).
If I am not mistaken, by now only teams with a coefficient lower than 1.5 are definitely unseeded in ELQ4, should any of them reach this round. |

| For me it's 1.700 to be sure to be unseeded |

| Sure, after the draw of the first two rounds, the seeding line has changed, since some teams with low coefficients are now drawn against each other in ELQ2, should they reach this round. For example FC Banants (ARM, 1.016) - Irtysh Pavlodar (KAZ, 1.124) |

| there is nothing to be added to the seeding for CL PO seeding for the champions path depends fully on the results in Q3, seeding for the league path is almost clear: Bayern, Arsenal, Lyon, Villarreal seeded, Udinese unseeded, depending on the outcome of the Q3 league path results team from any of Q3 league path pair could become the fifth seeded
some more details for the EL PO seeding list: 18 EL PO entrants seeded (last one Lokomotiv Moskva) plus 3 more teams from Q3 ties (the losers of the Dynamo Kyiv - Rubin, Panathinaikos - Odense and Standard - Zurich CL Q3 ties) 1 team from Q3 surely unseeded (the winner of Dinamo Tbilisi - KR) and 1 more almost surely unseeded (the winner of M. Tel-Aviv - Zeljeznicar could be ranked 38 only if surprises occur in each one of the other games) |
