Sorry for off-top. But I know there a lot of Romanians chatting here.. And i need your advice.
My wife & I would like to go to Romania this summer.. We prefer not seacoast but somewhere in the plains & lakes & mountains where it's calm, there is fresh air, exciting nature, excellent food and also where it's possible to find some high-standard accomodation

Could you recommend such a place\places?

I am not Romanian, but I've been in Sinaia and it was great spot, if you love calm, mountains and the castles. Drakula castle is not far away from this place, but I would like to recommend Peles castle, which is in Sinaia center.

I was born in Northern side of Romania, dept MARAMURES, wich is probably one of the bests destinations for such trip. Many foreigners come there on the Valee of Iza, walking, cycling, eating and drinking. Mountains arround also (few, not very highà, every second house it's a "pension", nice people, cheap. Beautiful hotel 3 or 4 stars brand new - I know the guy who built it, it's on the bord of the Iza, town Sighetu Marmatiei, link http://www.hotelmarmatia.ro/fr/chambres.html
Rooms for 240 Lei (lei = lyons = RON; 1 euro = 4.3 RON, so room for less than 60 euro). I think the paysans on the vallee have rooms for half that price, so you could try both.
From there you will pass a little mountain and get to North Moldova (the romanian Moldova, not the independent one) where you'll visit great monasters.
If you're interrested search on google "trip to Maramures or Valea Izei", maybe you'll find something.
But if you want just great montains and lakes, go to Austria (Tirol).
