Edited by: duncshine at: 25-09-2008, 14:32 | Hi all,
OK, with pretty well all leagues up and running the model starts to make sense. In previous years we have seen that a coefficient of about 35 was the difference between seeding and non-seeding in the final Champions League Qualifier, but with the change where are we now.
OK, in the Champions Q3
Seeded SWI1 FC Basel 53.266 GRE1 Olympiakos Piraeus 49.057 AUT1 FK Austria Wien 33.882 CZE1 AC Sparta Praha 27.434 SRB1 FK Partizan Beograd 22.867 Unseeded BUL1 PFC CSKA Sofia 16.847 DEN1 Odense BK 15.012 CRO1 NK Dinamo Zagreb 14.740 CYP1 Anorthosis Famagusta FC 9.427 SWE1 Kalmar FF 6.848
While in the non-Champions Q3 we have
Ann Club Coefficient Seeded SPA4 Sevilla FC 101.290 POR2 Sporting CP Lisbon 62.429 RUS3 CSKA Moskva 60.241 GER3 VfB Stuttgart 43.533 SCO2 Celtic FC 40.951 Unseeded NET2 SC Heerenveen 35.263 UKR2 FC Dynamo Kyiv 32.602 ENG4 Aston Villa FC 24.567 ITA4 SSC Napoli 20.243 FRA3 Toulouse FC 17.915 OK, we know that as the season progresses the cream rises to the top and the coefficients will also rise.
But what is clear is that the new system will give us more unfashionable teams, probably at the expense of runners-up or third from 2nd rank countries.
What does everyone think of this.

Edited by: badgerboy at: 25-09-2008, 19:53 | Well Soccerway has 4 teams level on 13 points with Polonia Warsaw top on goal difference.
I'm not sure what the tiebreaker criteria is in Poland but I doubt all 4 teams at the top have played each other yet so any head-to-head numbers must be pretty false. |

| Re the Polish league. Yes, I use Soccerway to ascertain current league leaders etc. Right now that looks like Legia Warszawa on goal difference.
Currently, they would be seed to go out in Champions' Q2.
In Champions Q3: Basel, Olympiakos, Austria Wien, Slavia Praha and Partizan Beograd would be seeded, with CSKA Sofia just missing out.
In Non-Champ Q3: Sevilla, Arsenal, Internazionale, Werder Bremen and PSV Eindhoven would be seeded, with Sporting Lisbon unseeded despite a current coefficient of 62.429! |
