| Hello all.
My question is if Olympiakos Piraeus beat their opponents in the 3rd Q round, are the coefficent points they gain from winning, say both matches, added to their total points and move them into pot 3 or are the points carried over till next season? |

| Coefficient points used in this year's competition are already set based on previous years' results. Any points they earn this year will go toward their coefficients for future years. |

| ... and of course team ranking is based only on points earned in proper rounds - points from Q rounds do not count |

| @ Bert: I see you have put Kaunas to CL Groupe Stage, but I think it would be more logical to put AAB Aalborg there, because their coefficient is way higher then one from Kaunas. |

| In theory, Kaunas has now earned Rangers' coefficient, which is a lot better than AaB's. AaB's coefficient is of course a lot better than Kaunas' own, but this is a choice Bert has made.
And it doesn't really make a difference because AaB and Kaunas would both be in pot 4 in the CL and unseeded in UCR1. |

| I think Bert already answered last year about Tampere (who took the coeff of Levski) that he was a bit "lazy" (his word) to do the change and preferred to leave the QR2 winner as "expected winner" in QR3 if the team they eliminated would be seeded in QR3. |

| Yes, the confusion arises from the fact that Bert presumes the seeded teams will go through and not those wtih the higher coefficient. In almost all cases the two statements are equivalent, but not when it comes to CLQR2 and QR3. |

| jackbauer Supposing Olympiacos eliminates Anorthosis and participates in CL GS, the only way for them to rise up to POT 3 is that at least one of the teams in front of Olympiacos being eliminated in CL R3 Why at least 1? Because Olympiacos is on the top of the list of POT 4(supposing all seeded teams passing the rounds) after Rangers was eliminated so 1 team being eliminated which is on the top of Olympiacos would be enough. These teams playing CL Q2 and Q3 are: Liverpool, Barcelona, Arsenal, Schalke, Juventus, Marseille, Steaua, Panathinaikos, Basel among which I think Schalke,Steaua and Basel are the strong candidates for being eliminated by Atletico, Galatasaray and Göteborg(Guimares) respectively.. From to the link you can have correct ranking of the teams and the Pots: http://www.m9700.com/sport/Draw08.htm |

| Don't know if "lazy" is appropriate (even if I said so ...), but it's more like being "stubborn". Above the group stage table it is written: "Below it is assumed that seeded teams in the 3rd qualifying round qualify for the group stage". And since I consider Kaunas to be the seeded team, they are listed in that table.
Maybe it would be more logical to assume that the team with the highest coefficient qualifies. But just like the other 16 teams of QR3 you always have to consider the possibility that unseeded teams qualify. And anyway, unseeded teams of QR3 are also always in pot 4, so it does not really matter. |
