2009-10 UEFA Cup Winner

As far as now, if UEFA Cup winner plays in Champions League, then another team takes its places. Same happen for Champions League. I mean a team in UEFA Cup pass directly to first round, while in other case would have played in qualifying round. What will happen in such cases in the new format of UEFA Cup? Access list shows us for current format, that in first qualification pass directly two teams and then one. Can Bert tell us about such case in the new format? Can you show us this in access list?

I think there will be a shift:

CWs of Andorra and San Marino will play in Q2
CW of 28th country will play in Q3
CW of 16th country will play in Q4
CW of 1st country will play in group stage

It is not shown in the Access list 2009/2012 because UEFA didn't publsih any info on this subject. In this BBC article it is said that UEFA is currently reviewing the qualification procedures. And that they will decide in August how each country's clubs can qualify.

It could be something like Kaiser's proposal. Or maybe (my favourite solution) they change the rules such that the cup-holder spot is always used as an extra spot for the corresponding association.

My guess on this - & it can only be a guess.

Where the TH spot is not used I would be very surprised if some other team took their spot in the Group Stage (as in Kaiser's example). I think there will be an adjustment so that two more teams play in QR4.

Something like:

QR1 = 46 teams. Either N3 of 22, 23, 24 or 25 or N2 of 35, 36, 37 & 38 (or 39 if Liechtenstein is 38th or higher in the ranking) qualify directly for QR2.

QR2 = 80 teams - 23 from QR1 & 57 with direct access. Either CW of 28 & 29 or N2 of 19 & 20 go straight to QR3.

QR3 = 70 teams - 40 from QR2 & 30 with direct access. CW of 16 & 17 go straight to QR4.

QR4 = 76 teams - 35 from QR2, 15 from CLQ & 26 with direct access.

Why not? In CL 10th champion takes place of TH, if it's not used...

Yes - but lots of other teams also qualify directly for the CL groups.

In the UEFA Cup no UEFA Cup teams (only CL dropouts) go directly to the groups.

I would prefer badgerboys solution: no other team directly qualified.

So let's consider CL 'garbage' better than 'true' UEFA Cup teams?

Kaiser

They are not considered "better" - although some of the teams dropping out of the NCQ round might turn out that way...

I think it's primarily part of Platini's idea to ensure that more domestic Champions are ensured a decent number of European games - so including the UEFA Cup a minimum of 22 will play a group stage.

Plus it's not very practical to fit in an extra UEFA Cup KO round between the end of the CL qualifiers & the start of the groups now that the UEFA Cup group stage has as many games as the CL ones.

As far as that goes, UEFA should change ranking system, giving more points to CL teams than UC ones. Let's remember Espanyol 1st and Milan 5th in the year 2007! And with the new system UEFA Cup participants will have chance to get the more points!

No, with the new system UEFA Cup teams won't get more points than before, at least not for the team ranking, since round 1 will be a qualification round and thus not count for the team ranking.

And I really don't understand why you bring up the cl-should-bring-more-points discussion, it has nothing to do with this.
