depends... it's the first time we have 4 teams from 1 country in the quaters of the Champions League. England also had all teams in the quaters in 00/01, 3 at the time. before 99/00 there were max 2 teams from each country, however in 97/98 Germany had 3 teams in the quaters, 2 league qualificants plus titleholder Dortmund. In 98/99 Germany and Italy had both CL teams in the quaters. Both Spain and Italy had 3 of 4 in the quaterfinals at least once, No other nation had 2 or more teams in the quaterfinals of the Champions league, I'm not sure about the Champions Cup pre 1993. For the UEFA Cup, the record of all 5 participating teams in the quaters and 4 of them in the semis of Germany 79/80 stands, in the same year, HSV was also in the final of the European Champions Cup, but Düsseldorf lost in the first round of the CWC, I think 6 of 7 was the closest anyone ever got to have every team in every of the 2/3 competitions in the quaters.

“No other nation had 2 or more teams in the quaterfinals of the Champions league”

Cirdan,

In 2003/2004, Monaco & Lyon reached the CL quarters.

Yes, but Monaco is not France. It is a independant city state and is only participating in the french Ligue.

Zhund0r, since Monaco is playing in the French league they have to be considered as a French team in terms of football.

Sure, if he would ask for teams of the same ligue it is right. But he asked "same country" ^^

Coming back to the original question, yes it's the first time that a country has 4 team in quarters of finals of the CL.
However, it is pretty common to have 3 representants at that level:
England already did it twice (2001-07), Italy 3 times (2003-05-06) and Spain 4 times in a row (2000-01-02-03).

At the semi-final level, the record is currently co-held by Spain (3 in 2000), Italy (3 in 2003) and England (3 in 2007).

Italy and Spain managed to have 'domestic' finals in 2000 (Real-Valencia) and 2003 (Milan-Juve).

If you consider all European Cups, i.e. including the UEFA Cup, the record is held by Spain with 7 teams in quarters in 2000 (3 in the CL + 4 in the UEFA Cup). Difficult to beat this one!

At semi-final level, record is co-held by Spain (4 teams in 2001) and Italy (4 in 2003).

No country have managed to get 3 teams in final in the 2 cups since 2000. Spain (4 times in 2000, 2001, 2006, 2007), France in 2004 and England in 2006 got 2 teams in final.

Only Spain in 2006 made the double (Barca / Sevilla).

When the CWC existed, only Italy made the Grand Slam in 1990 with 3 wins in the 3 cups (and Juve beating Fiorentina in the UEFA Cup final).
