| Has anyone any information about this? I think Benfica made it last years and so as Fenerbahce this year. I wonder which teams succeeded, which of them reached to QF, SF, or Final, and which of them were unseeded in qualification round (if any)? Best regards. |

| Something similar, but not exactly what you asked. Still i consider it as the greatest low-team performance, and the biggest surprise recently:
Artmedia Petrzalka (Svk): Seeded in Q1 Unseeded in Q2 - beated Celtic Seeded in Q3 (gained Celtic's seeding) - but still played much higher team - Partizan Belgrade - and beated them Almost passed a group (beated Porto), but still earned third place, and survived winter in Europe. Eliminated in Uefa cup in spring. They beated many stronger teams that season.
There were teams like Celta and Real Sociedad, for which i think that they were in 4th pot, and passed a group. Also, Lokomotiv Moscow was the first Russian team in the CL after many years. They passed a group and ''broke the ice'' for Russian football. I think they were 4th pot, too. |

| Thanks for the replies. I was wondering the best performances of CL history as well. Monaco, loosing final against Porto, was a 3rd pot team but I'm not sure. It was one of the best performances according to qualifying from lower pots. Sociaded was a group stage qualifying favourite although they entered from 4th pot. But Artmedia was a real surprise qualifying from 1st round. Benfica made a qf like Fener, but there is not a better performance sf or final. I also believe that no any 4th pot or unseeded qualifier will make a final against big big european giants of former g-14 unless a big money club from Russia or teams like Shakhtar or Fener which are hunger for power and for big transfers. I hope any team of Europa even from Israel or Russia will demolish the 'Wall' of giant clubs but they already know that it is impossible without earning and gaining more money. I assume that next year Fenerbahce which is not from big legaues (may be some other Russian teams and may be Olympiacos or Shakhtar next years) will enter Deloitte Money League top-20 while they are the 25th this year. Best regards. |
