| I read this article in the Mirror today -> link.
Manchester City could go to Europe through the Fair Play rankings.
Here are the current UEFA Fair Play rankings -> link.
And the current EPL Fair Play rankings -> link.
And of course, the EPL standings -> link.
Does anyone know where I can find the Fair Play rankings for Germany and Norway?
Thanks! |

| Nice one. Man City wouldn't be a bad bet. They've already indicated they would enter the last ever Intertoto if necessary, and they have the potential to be a good European entrant.
All we need now is for the owner to get out of Thailand with his fortune intact and Man City could be a force again.

| Uefa didn't cancel the IT cup, because it was unfair. They did it because it wasn't interesting as they thought it would be (actually when only 3 team qualified it was more than fair , because these were really good teams). The FP spots are UEFA way to say that fairplay means something for it, and it doesn't make a big affect on the country rankings (because they will start from UC q1). |

| Hey, everybody
Does anyone know how these rankings are calculated? Or is there a link posted in the past where I can learn. I know there are some objective measures like number of yellow cards and red cards but also there are some subjective measures like attitude towards the referee, supporters reaction, etc. |

And older (March 12th) link from Marca -> link.
The most recent ranking looks like this:

| Edgar, thanks for the info. But the given rankings of France and Spain must be unofficial, because they don't follow the UEFA rules. Yellow and red cards are only part of the story. We have seen before (in Germany) that the winner of such a national fair play list is not neccesarily the domestic winner of the official UEFA Fair Play. |

| @ The guy who's mental attitude is still ~1923.
And that the fair play teams were very often bottom teams or relegated teams doesn't matter? All those teams usually did was hurting the coefficients after losing in the first round.
But writing without thinking seems to be popular nowadays. |

| I think Norway have a good chance winning the UEFA fair play competition. The standings 31 December were:
1 England 8.117 (113 matches) 2 Norway 8.113 (67) 3 Germany 8.079 (100) 4 Sweden 8.076 (77) 5 France 8.075 (94) 6 Denmark 8.064 (73) 7 Spain 8.042 (111) 8 Estonia 8.025 (41) 9 Finland 8.022 (55)
Since then the Norwegian clubs and youth national teams have acted very nice, while the English have collected plenty of bookings.
Each yellow card equals to -0.25 point in the match sum. Two English bookings in each match is a pretty good estimate. I don't have time to look, but let add 30 more English matches in 2008. This means -0.25 * 30 = -7.5 points. Divded on 113 + 30 matches this is 0.052. Consequently 8.117 - 0.052 = 8.065.
This is of course not accurate, just an example.
Rosenborg by the way won the Norwegian fair play competition last year. |

Standings 17.03.08:

| Norway always win the Fair Play ranking. Or if they don't Sweden do. Or Denmark...
It's a Scandinavian benefit - largely because all the Scandinavians love women's football & are pretty good at it.
Hence they play a lot of these games - people actually turn up to watch them (bonus points in one of the Fair Play criteria) & a "crunching tackle" in the woman's game is probably rarer than a friendly local derby in the men's game - hence less bookings per match and more Fair Play points.
And this year I'll be even happier when the pointless ranking is won by yet another team that seems to play in Europe pretty much every single year - even when they've had a rubbish domestic season. Couldn't they even find a lousy cup to win?
I'll also bet at least one of the other balls out of the pot is a Scandinavian country too.
Perhaps though this draw really is "fixed". The countries that don't actually want their season to start so early just agree to have their name substituted for one of the Scandinavian countries that didn't finish top & the draw goes ahead with three Swedish balls, three Danish ones & a couple of other hopefuls with an outside chance of winning... |

| Are you sure FP rankings include women's matches?
BTW, Man City currently leads the FP rankings in England so that's another great team. |

| Women's matches are included, as I have been told by the Norwegian FA.
Norway have played just 34 euro cup matches in 07/08, so the rest of the total 73 matches is national teams' matches. |

| No, that's when the draw will be held. The rankings will be published before that (at the start of May). |

| Winner probably would be announced after UC semifinals. Draw will be at the UC final. Between UC semis and final there are no any international matches (nor NT friendlies), which could be counted, so the FP coefficient will remain the same in that period. So, my logic tells me that UEFA will do it a few days after UC semifinals. |

| According to this article on Marca the fight for the fair play spot in Spain is between Valladolid and Deportivo, both are also fighting to avoid relegation.
Barcelona and Villarreal are above them in the rankings, but almost qualified to CL. |

| Deportivo is virtually safe from relegation at this point--ten teams would have to pass them; they have a nine-point lead over Zaragoza and Recre with 15 points still in play. Since some of the teams that are behind them play each other, they are almost surely safe even if they lose all five games. |

| The contest is now officially finished.
Can't say I liked the Norwegian U19 red card yesterday, especially since the Viking winger hitted the opponent with his hand after being fauled. Very unnecessary!
Nevertheless Norway should win this. |
