| If you're going to write a list why leave out teams like Juventus, CSKA Moskva etc? |

| Because I give you a chance to write their positions. |

| This one is an easy one. Try to compute all results from past 5 years WITHOUT the country coeff (those 33% that boost a newbie). And you'll have a good answer.
That way we simply add up the points each team really earned for itself and rewards for achieving Group Stages and QF, SF... |

| @Aliceag: I don't think a system that grants the same points for a win in the CL against Real or Milan as in the UC against Dnipro is really accurate... at least not if it isn't a round-robin league. Especially Newcastle and Sevilla are obviously overrated due to UC performances. But I don't know if an ELO-style ranking would work, since a lot of teams don't play enough games, and I don't see any other adequate method. |

| Look up Jerome Fagueras on rsssf - he has a ranking system which has a few advantages over the UEFA system - it takes domestic leagues into account so in theory could include every club in Europe. |

| I agree with Aliceag and Cirdan,
There should be no 33% of country ranking, and CL games should count more than UEFA Cup games. |

| I did that ranking: - without country points - with a degressive factor (2007 -> 100%, 2006 --> 80%, 2005 -> 60%, 2004 -> 40%, 2003 -> 20%)
1. Milan AC 67.8 2. Liverpool 57.2 3. FC Barcelona 55.0 4. Chelsea 53.4 5. FC Sevilla 52.2 6. Arsenal 51.4 7. Lyon 51.0 8. Inter Milan 48.8 9. Manchester United 45.0 10. PSV Eindhoven 44.0 11. Real Madrid 43.2 12. Bayern Munich 42.0 13. Newcastle United 41.0 14. Benfica 39.4 15. AZ Alkmaar 39.2 16. FC Porto 38.6 17. Werder Bremen 38.4 18. Valencia CF 37.4 19. AS Roma 37.0 20. Espanyol 36.2 etc. |

| That ranking suffers from UEFA Cup ties having the same points as CL games - hence Newcastle being in a false position. |

| And Sevilla, AZ Alkmaar and Espanyol too, not just Newcastle.
These teams got ALL theirs points in the UEFA Cup (except Sevilla this season, and Newcastle in 2002/2003 season if it still counts for the ranking). |

| I think Lyon is in the top 8. Marseilles about the 20th place just behind all européan top teams (4-5 inthe top 3 and teams like porto,psv,bayern etc). Most of the french teams (bordeaux, lille, lens,monaco and several middle ranked teams ligue 1), could be ranked beetween the 25 and the 50 place.But it means nothings if they didn't manage to qualify UC or CL. In France there's lyon and the others. Any teams could qualify in champion's league and any teams could be relegated. The big problem is that when they are qualified they don't play like the year before. Ex toulouse qualified in QR3 eliminated by liverpool, win no match in UC and 18th in ligue 1. Nancy could manage to qualify in CL but next year? relegated? Auxerre is 17th today, perhaps could they be 2nd in 2008-2009? In fact i wrote several lines but i can't answer this question. I could say that each year we 've got teams who are in top 20 but they are not qualified in european cups lol. |
