Does climate influence on UC Group Stage calendar?

I have noticed that northern teams often play the last matches away or even miss MD5 in the UEFA Cup group stage. Does club's place climate really influence on calendar?

Yes, Kaiser, it does. We have discussed it before in this forum. If I remember well it is not written in the regulations itself. But the regulations allow the UEFA administration to set further rules.

In 2006 UEFA said the following:
"When the draw concludes - with eight sections of five teams - a computer draw will take place to determine the fixture schedule with factors such as stadium clashes and climatic conditions, as it is not possible to play in some northern countries in mid-December, taken into account."
See Contenders set for group stage draw.

The exact criteria are however unknown (or maybe better said unpublished). Some years ago the English UC teams were not able to play on the 3rd matchday because of a fixture clash with the domestic schedule.

Interesting... I'd rather send UEFA letter with the question...

Although I did not follow the draw of the groupstage this year I did it last year.
I think even the draw is influenced by them. I think there were 'winter' teams(Russia, Ukraine, ...) and 'cold' teams(Switzerland, Czech, ...) then, and it was not allowed to have more than 1 winter team and not more than 2 winter&cold teams in 1 group.

Climate influence EuroCups scheduling. There are no written rules because there are too many possible scenarios, and it would be too hard to predict hundreds of possibilities. Theoretically in the UC group stage you can have 4(5) teams from Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Belarus, 5-6 from Norway, Russia ... These are the country which are in the 'coldest pot'. I think Ukraine is 'less cold' than Russia. Also i don't know what about Switzerland, is it 'cold country' or not, and if it is, it's less cold for sure ... Also there are criteria at scheduling which are more important. So this rule is applied every year differently, considering specific situation for each year.

For example this year we had climate rule not applied because of more important rule - Spartak and Lokomotiv - two clubs from the same city - can't play home matches at the same matchday.

This year we had plenty of 'cold teams' - 2 from Sweden, 3 from Russia, 2 from Norway ...
