Edited by: badgerboy at: 27-05-2007, 03:48 | OK, I think we're now in a decent position to look at the potential seeding pots for next year's UEFA Cup.
Some of the teams I've included are not yet mathematically qualified & of course there is potential for shocks in QR1/2 or the IT but I think this gives a decent picture (& a much more worthwhile one than on the CL thread where Bert has most of it written already!)
Pot A Villarreal (U1 or IT - +6 pts/3 games left) Bayern Munich (U1) Panathinaikos (U1) Basel (Q2) Lens (IT) Bordeaux (U1) Bayer Leverkusen (U1) Club Brugge (U1)
Pot B Palermo (U1) Tottenham (U1) Real Zaragoza (U1/IT - +8 pts/3 games left) Rapid Bucuresti (U1) Lokomotiv Moscow (U1/Q2) Zenit (Q2/IT) Sparta Praha (CLQ3) Udinese (IT?)- a possibility for the Italian IT spot but Sampdoria is favourite Fenerbahce (CLQ3) Pot C if Udinese do make the IT
Pot C Sochaux-Montbeliard (U1) Blackburn (IT) AEK Athens (CLQ3) Heerenveen (U1) Hamburg (IT) Dinamo Bucuresti (CLQ3) Slavia Praha (CLQ3/U1/IT) Bolton (U1) Would be in Pot D if Udinese qualify for IT
Pot D Rosenborg (CLQ3) Partizan Belgrade (Q1) Maccabi Haifa (IT) - seeded team in IT if Villarreal goes straight to UEFA Cup. For now I put Villarreal in IT & Atletico Madrid in UEFA Cup Austria Wien (Q2) Dnipro (Q2 - +5 pts - 2 games left) Sampdoria (IT) - If not already taken by Udinese. This also assumes Atalanta aren't eligible Spartak Moscow (CLQ3) Braga (U1) Galatasaray (Q2) Pot E if M.Haifa are seeded IT team
Pot E Atletico Madrid/Recreativo/R.Santander (U1/IT) If M. Haifa don't already have the IT seeded spot Getafe (U1) Everton (U1) Slovan Liberec (CLQ3/U1/IT) Fiorentina (U1) Empoli (U1) Rennes (U1) CSKA Sofia (Q2)
Top 20 currently unseeded - UEFA R1 FC Utrecht/Vitesse (IT) Hapoel Tel-Aviv (Q2) Crvena Zvezda (CLQ3) FC Kobenhavn (CLQ3) Litex Lovech (Q1) Vitesse would actually fit here Toulouse (CLQ3) Dinamo Zagreb (CLQ3) Panionios (U1) Uniao Leiria (Q2) Genk (CLQ3) Odense (Q1) Groningen (U1) Nurnberg (U1) Standard Liege (Q2) Maccabi Tel-Aviv (Q1/2) Belenenses (U1) Pacos Ferreira (U1) Mlada Boleslav (CLQ3/U1/IT) Trabzonspor (IT) FC Petrzalka (Q1) |

| I'm missing Ajax or AZ in pot A |

| Thanks Ricardo
Yes, I realised that shortly after waking up today when I was mulling over the football matches to be played today.
A stupid mistake because I took the information from my spreadsheet & ignored teams with an entry in my CL seeding columns. Of course Ajax/AZ are both shown as No. 16 because one is in & one is out. I'll go back & correct it - if still possible. If not all teams must move down one - sorry CSKA fans... |

| Rapid Bucarest's trainer, razvan Lucescu (the son of Shakhtar Donetsk trainer) wont signe a new contract with this team and will be engaged by FC Brasov (second division!). We must say here that he's leaving because of Rapid's boss. My opinion: 1. he did a great job at Rapid, built a competitive and spectacular team 2. the team showed some "limitation of power", like that's the maximum they can do and they can have better results only if teams above produces less. 3. he never felt what it was obvious, that the defense was far from the level of the rest of the team 4. he's leaving at the right moment |

Saras
I've now updated my list mainly because I wanted to see how many of the top 40 actually have to qualify - the answer is 12 - excluding teams that have to play CLQR2 (which theoretically is qualifying too).
Hapoel Tel-Aviv are at 43. None of the other outstanding issues pre-qualifying should affect that. So they will need three higher ranked teams eliminated from UEFA Cup qualifying/IT. There are 14 teams above them (again excluding CLQR2) that have to qualify.
In addition should any unseeded team in CLQR3 ranked from Crvena Zvezda down eliminate a seeded team then their ranking would drop so they would need the equivalent number of UEFA/IT "surprises" to compensate. |
