Newcastle win Intertoto Cup

1) Newcastle won it as they've gone further than any other Intertoto team this season, but who would have won it if Newcastle had been knocked out of the UEFA Cup in the group stage?

2) Do Newcastle get to defend the Intertoto Cup - assuming they don't qualify for Europe any other way?

"The clubs which qualify for the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup and which subsequently go furthest in the competition each receive a UEFA Intertoto Cup trophy".

Date: 21-12-2006, 11:19 		So there could be 1 winner or 11 winners - and some years there may even be a UEFA Cup tie which is effectively the Intertoto Cup Final.

And that answers the second question - there can't be 11 holders places, so I there won't be 1 holders place.
