What were the restrcictions for teams of the same city(or that play in the same stadium) in the champions league. First I want to appologise to bert because this as nothing to do with coefficients but if there?s a syte where I can get this answer is here. Iremeber when chelsea was drawn they had only the chance to be put in barças grup( i thought one of the reasons was because they had to play away while arsenal was playing home)...however Cska Moscow and Spartac are playing in the same city with less than 48 hours of difference, I thought this was one of restrictions...can anyone help me with this??

several teams were 'linked' together. This meant that one played on Tuesday (group A-D) and the other played Wednesday(group E-H). Home away was in teh computerdraw afterwards. Russian teams had to play the last match away.

For Russian teams, playing in Russia during december is a bad idea

So there are two rules of UEFA in force for the CL draw:

1) Russia teams must play the last match away from home (in case of cold weather).

2) Teams from the same city are paired so they play home/away at the same time.

So we can see rule 1 takes priority over rule 2, therefore both Moscow teams play away on the last matchday. By the way Dinamo Kiev play at home on the last matchday, is the weather problem not so bad for Ukraine teams?

Here is a link to the original article on UEFA.com showing the pairs and another one explaining the provisions regarding the Russian clubs.

According to http://www.worldweather.org, the average daily temperature maximum is -3.5 deg.C in Moscow and +0.1 deg.C for Kiev, so the difference isn't dramatic.

Another thing that springs to mind is that it's hardly possible to start matches in Moscow at 20.45 CET (=22.45 MSK) (eager to see Luch Vladivostok qualify for CL )

Conscious

That's a very good point about the time.

Thinking about it & the fact that - for fairness - matches must kick off simultaneously on Matchday 6 - this is probably the deciding factor, rather than the temperatures.

Yes, all matches on MD4 and MD5 kick off at the same time and also there are restrictions on who does not play on MD5.
See topic "a question about the uefa group stages please..."
