Edited by: naaba at: 01-09-2006, 16:15 | Following the news from a belgian website, UEFA opens investigation against Ethnikos Achnas in the business of faked bets. Maccabi Petah-Tikva - Ethnikos and Ethnikos - Roeselare are suspected. Could Ethnikos be banned from European competition and replaced by... Roeselare ?

I have to say this is an exceedingly funny post.
I have absolutely no idea if there is anything untoward about the Ethnikos-Roeselare match (or indeed any other Ethnikos matches). However, I'm fairly confident that if anything untoward did occur involving the Roeselare match then the losing team had to be complicit in it and even UEFA wouldn't be stupid enough to reward them by returning them to European competition. Unless of course the suggestion is that E. Achnas have been pretending to be a no better than average Cypriot team for years just to lull their first European opponents into a false sense of security... Now that would be a clever betting coup! |

| I don't believe that the games of Athnikos with Petach Tikva were suspicious. P.T played very poor... About the game against the Belgian team the score of 5-0 sounds wired, but I did not see the game so whoever saw the game please reply. |

But the word is that this match was bought by the Serbian maffia (Referee was Serbian) just to win some big bucks.
There was also big betting in Cyprus for this match. The referee didn't have to make intervention because of the bad day of Roeselare. |

| well, i think uefa should stop giving a chance for shit teams like roeselare to play in the competitions for some strange "fair play". this is the fair-play,obviously. i read the reports after the friendly Roeselare-Litex (2:5) in the netherlands i think, and the belgians played very, very tough,so i just can't understand what the hell means "fair play" for the uefa dudes??? if this team is playing fair-play then i wonder what are the other teams playing. wrestling or sumo maybe. these "fair play" places are simply ridiculous... |

| How exactly was this bought without a Belgian involvement? Could the Serbian referee score 5 times for Ethnikos?! Could the Serbian players from Ethnikos score five times if either Roeselaare weren't so weak or they were also involved? |

Edited by: jmf at: 02-09-2006, 19:47 | They are involved. When you earn less than 75.000€ as professionnal, is easy to corrupt you. 10.000 € to be in an "off day" for example. That's exactly the same process we knew two years ago in Belgium with some corrupted players in low level teams. The organizer of these tricky matches were a chinese called mister Ye. Several players has been banned. |

| Yes, including the Romanian Marius Mitu.
I'm very curious to see what happens with this case. There were suspicions before in this kind of obscure matches between small teams in the UEFA Cup preliminary rounds, but nothing has been proved. |

Edited by: stoffel at: 02-09-2006, 21:33 | For the match Achnas-Roeselare was a high betting in Serbia and Asia for a win of Achnas. So high that betting shops have closed the game for betting. The fact that a lot Serbian players play with Achnas and that the referee was a Serbian is maybe also strange. But the strangest of all is that the fourth referee celebrated the win with the players of Achnas he had even taken pictures of the Cypriot bench. It could be a high day for the man but that's not really right in fair play. Also Roeselare received a strange e-mail. What's the e-mail about I don't know but Roeselare give it to the UEFA. |

| Well, when Roeselare beat Macedonian Vardar 5-1 in QR1, everything is fair and when they lose 0-5 to Ethnikos Achnas then something is necessaruly wrong. Remember, it is easy to lose deliberately, but it is hard to win, because everyone wants to win. So, if there was something wrong with the match, then Roeselare players were also involved. If they weren't, then Ethnikos cannot fix the match alone. Also, if any Cypriot player had bet on this match, then it is not illegal. It is absolutely fair to bet on your own victory. It would be unfair to bet on your own defeat, because this is the only case when you can fix the match by losing deliberately. I think Roeselare players must admit they were the weaker team and stop trying to find "the calf under the ox". |
