Should domestic rank affect seeding or QR entry ?

Hi all,
The system, where national coeffs only determine the number of teams and their QR entrance, while only club coeffs determine seeding in the rounds, does not seem fair if it is about league ranking.
Of course, if a team is 3rd and goes to CL and if another team is 4th and goes to CL, then it would be unfair if the 3rd can be unseeded and the 4th can be seeded in CL QR3. Also, why should 3rd and 4th enter at the same round ?
This year we have Newcastle going to UC through IT. They are almost top-seeded in R1, while higher ranked and directly qualified Tottenham are unseeded.
Also, Valancia and Osasuna, Liverpool and Arsenal, Chievo and Milan, all they enter in CL QR3, which does not make any difference of being 3rd or 4th. Even 4th team can be seeded and 3rd unseeded depending only on club coeff.
What do you think ? Shouldn't domestic league ranking also matter in round entering and seeding ?

The European Cups(Champions League and UEFA Cup) are competitions between teams, not between countries.Probably this is the main reason why are such differences between teams seeded or unseeded in european competitions, even if their domestic leagues has another ranking.

I've long been uncomfortable with the fact that 4th in EPL can be seeded in CLQ3 while 3rd is not. In practice it doesn't usually happen because the current top 4 are fairly solidly ensconced.
Your UEFA Cup example of Newcastle and Tottenham is an excellent example of the same thing for UCR1.
So far English TV pundits are not clued up. Yesterday they said something like Newcastle have a very easy draw and all the other English teams should win. Seeded Blackburn are playing Salzburg! While they might win, this is a tough pairing. And there was no mention of money ... or Trappatoni. Tottenham and West Ham are both unseeded, but each has a reasobable shance, but surely not much better than 50:50?

For CL there is an easy solution:
direct qualifiers in pot 1 and 2, Q3-participants in pot 3 & 4. This would make sure that champions have a better draw, though it will get more unpredictable as groups will be more unbalanced.

For UC maybe something alike can be done splitting in direct entries and qualifiers or just first and second entry of a country. But then still Newcastle as a qualifier could have a 'easy' direct entry, while Tottenham could get a hard qualifier(Valencia?)

All UEFA competitions fit the interests of big teams. All kind of interests, including economical ones. So, it is required that big teams met each others during final levels and not during knock out and early phases. This means that middle-value teams and low-value teams are always not taken in enough account. More over, big teams have the bigger number of supporters and this increase the public (especially on TV) and sponsoring. So, the final season grade in the domestic league is not taken in account. I don’t see an easy solution if UEFA doesn’t choose to change the way.
In any case, I agreed with you: UEFA should change!
