| Hi every body! It is the first time I post on this amazing forum and I hope it is not the last. I hope I will not make English mistakes.
For me it was a bad idea to remove CWC former C2. I have an idea since a long time ago. I'm French, and in the French League we have the Cup's Leage which is a competition open for all clubs with the professionnal statut. (20 clubs in Ligue 1, 20 clubs in Ligue 2 and 3 or 4 clubs in Ligue 3). On the other hand we have French Cup which is open to all teams and for example PSG has all ready met one team of the 6th League.
My idea is to develop the League Cup (who exists all ready in the UK) in the 16th best European countries. Winners will be also qualified to the new C2 with winners of domestic leagues. It could be an interesting thing to get more attract ti the WCW and then creat a new format.
What do you thing about that? |

| Welcome to the forum dragonaute_auxerrois.
I'm not sure I fully understand your idea but definitely don't like the idea of reintroducing the CWC.
If I understand your post correctly you want the top 16 countries to introduce a new domestic competition? Well if they don't have a league cup already they obviously don't want one. And then if you put the league cup and domestic cup winners in one new competition you simply take teams out of the UEFA Cup, simply making two competitions weaker individually than the one you have now.
I think though a more interesting way of interpreting your post is to read it as suggesting a knockout cup involving all the clubs in the top 16 leagues in Europe!
A few years ago I thought about the idea of turning the UEFA Cup into such a competition - I'd call it an "FA Cup" of Europe. But involving every top division team in Europe (not just the top 16 countries). Every team except the CL 32 takes part. I did the numbers at the time but too long ago to remember now. I think essentially it involved one "preliminary round" and then 512 teams playing straight knockout to the final. No seedings & a completely open draw. 9 rounds after the preliminary so would easily fit into the European calendar.
On paper quite a fun idea but in practice probably way too expensive to run. |

Why did uefa abolish cwc? I can't remember (I did ask on another thread), but I think it's because there was declining interest, particularly as when more teams qualified for CL; now a team would take the CL place over the UC place, and presumably over a hypothetical CWC or LCWC place.
What are -like- the last 10 winners of the Frnch league cup? Did they play Euro football also (in england, the league Cup winner is often a CL player the next season, so would not play in a hypothetical LCWC.
There is some resistance on this forum to the current practice of cup losers getting in the UC, already.
I guess, as badgrboy says, the problem is - if a country has no league cup already, probably means the teams don't want one.
I agree it can be sometimes a very exciting domestic competition. |
