Edited by: badgerboy at: 19-06-2006, 12:16 | Found a link here saying it might (but only might) be Portsmouth.
The article raises an interesting question - to me at least. Am I misunderstanding the article or is the Steaua owner also the player's agent? In England that would be seen as a massive conflict of interest. Keep the best players at your club or sell them to a richer one and presumably increase your personal income considerably.
OK - here's another link that says Blackburn have emerged as favourites. |

Edited by: Giuseppe at: 19-06-2006, 15:10 | Gigi Becali isn't his agent *officially* but he acts as if he were because he is his godfather and being someones godfather offers you some influence over that person (especially when it comes to Gigi Becali who has an old-fashioned view of the family unit). There is a reason why Radoi is the best paid player of Steaua (officially he made 405.000 euros this season, but he might have made more). I'm really curious to see if this whole deal is for real or if it's only a balloon full of hot air. Honestly I would be happy either way - if leaves it will mean a lot of money for the club and if he stays we get to keep one of our best players.
Edit: according to Dutch newspaper Voetbalkrant Radoi will sign with Tottenham Hotspur. In the mean time The Sun announces a transfer to Portsmouth. |

| About the conflict of interest, it doesn't exist in this case, because the player give a legal mandat to Becali to negociate his contract, salary and other conditions, contract which he will sign or not by player. This is not a usual case for any Steaua's players, but is base on the trust from the two, based on the special connection mentioned above. More, i fail to to see what the conflict of interests is, why Becali will not have an interest to obtain a best contract for his player. To make a impresion about how Becali thinks, is is ready to accept half this price, only if Radoi will have a double salary or has a offer from a bigger club (again this is a exception).
But from where the thigs are right now, nothing is certain, i say that the chances are 50%-50% like the player to leave or stay at Steaua. The negociation have been made through an impresar, David Roach, representing a club (unknown for us), not direct to a club. I am surely glad if Mirel Radoi will stay and he will have better satisfaction at Steaua then to a english mediocre club. Is his decision anyway. |

| Dennis Roach is currently agent to Mark Hughes and Harry Redknapp, managers of Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth, respectively. It doesn't mean it has to be one of these clubs, but ... (and Blackburn are in UEFA Cup). |

| When I said official I meant numbers released by the press and generally agreed upon. What is actually written in his contract no one can know. You know that all figures realeased by the press (transfer fees or wages) are purely conjectural. The actual figures are usually confidential. So if you want disregard the word 'official', but it won't change the fact he made at least 405.000 euros this season. This may not mean much for big western clubs, but it is alot for Romania.
P.S. It seems that the English club in mention is indeed Portsmouth. We will know the truth, hopefully, tomorrow. |

| The last news: Radoi doesn't leave anymore. Steaua's coach, Olaroiu, says that Radoi will stay after all. Look here: http://www.stelisti.ro/index/Oli_148Radoi_a_ramas_la_noi148.html |

| "POMPEY will smash their transfer record after beating off Blackburn and Spurs to sign £7million Steaua Bucharest defender Mirel Radoi.
The Romanian international, 25, has agreed a three-year deal worth £15,000 a week to become Harry Redknapp’s first summer signing.
The centre-back, who has 28 caps, helped Steaua to the semi-finals of last season’s UEFA Cup."

Edited by: christi at: 22-06-2006, 11:16 | When the English papers said nothing, the Romanian papers insisted he's leaving. Now, when Romanian papers say he's staying put, English papers started saying he's leaving. IMHO, he's not worth that kind of money. Pompey should think more before throwing 11 million euros down the drain. |

| The problem is not if he is worthing 11 mil or not... The problem is if Portsmouth (17th place) deserves this good player. I think Portsmouth wanted this player alot but he just not signed and the deal went off... After next season in Champions League the value of Radoi will be much greater than 11 million! |

| Mirel Radoi, do not leave this season, after his wish the transfer have fall out. Gigi Becali said he is glad that the transfer will not be realised. This transfer was not ever about money, but was about a better salary for Radoi, Steaua couldn't offer salaries bigger than 1 mil euros to all the players, an to offer such a salary to single player would seem unfair for the others. If the player accepts a salary of 500.000 euro/year and with the high bonuses that Becali give for performances (especialy reaching CL groups) the income from the club will be close to 1 mil for Radoi, i think the player is more than happy to stay to the only club that will exist in his heart.
About the english clubs, they are certanly the clubs of the moment in Europe, at least economical, if the lower clubs can pay such fee and bring such valuable players. The foreigners bring much value, i don't want to think how english coefficients would look like if no foreigner player (even investor) would activate in EPL. |

| Mirel Radoi will remain in Bucharest at Steaua because he doesn't want to leave at such teams like Portsmouth or Lens.....i think the only club from Premier League who wants to play is Liverpool, otherwise in his contract is stipulated a clause in which every year he stays will bring 200,000 euros(example he gets now 300,000 and from 1st january 2007 will get 500,000......and from 1st january 2008 another +200,000 euros....and so on), plus bonuses for qualifying rounds in CL/UC and Liga I championship.......................another argument not to play for such teams is: he said two years ago "i'm not haste to leave Steaua only if a great club like Real Madrid or AC Milan wants me and it is an advantage for Steaua(financial speaking) "..........so Mirel i don't want to leave because we need you to access CL groups!!!!! Forzza Steaua!!! |
