Sepp's at it again...

Yet another announcement that FIFA is trying to tell national associations how to run their domestic leagues.

BBC Article here

Note the quote doesn't mention cutting down fixtures to give players more rest. It says four more dates for the international calendar. What for - more pointless friendlies, an expanded Confederations Cup?

Note that there is a link from that article to another one - G14 clubs want more matches in CL. Any connections?

i think that topteams are happy with the rule that countries has a maximum of 18 teams/

Teams like arsenal, manchester they don't want to play against sunderland, birmingham

so 4 less teams in the regular championchip, so 4 extra games in champion's league against real madrid or bayern munchen

all the tv-rights devided by 20 teams, average 5 %, or devided against 18 teams, average 5,55 % ( that is an increase of 11 % in tv-rights, that are a few million euros extra for each club )

so fifa-boss and G14 go hands in hands

The 'top teams' don't contro; the vote. The vast majority will not agree change on G14 members' say-so.

Incidentally the distribution of prize money in the EPL gives 35.2% of the total to the top 4. A reduction to 18, with no other changes, would increase this to 38.6%. (At least the bottom club would advance from 0.48% to 0.58% - how's that for fairness?)

Sorry - I think International match days simply means more days for International team matches - not European club matches.

Sepp is after more free dates for FIFA not UEFA.

I do agree that a handful of the biggest clubs might not complain so much if the fixture list was changed so that there were more four BIG European matches and four less minor Premiership matches.

BUT I think they would prefer just putting back the four match days that were lost when GS2 was abolished and leaving the domestic fixtures as they are. Any more European fixtures than that and you really are talking about a near league system. I don't think increasing the number of teams in the CL and having a bigger initial group stage would be better for the big clubs financially than the four lost domestic fixtures - at least not in England (I can't speak for the other leagues concerned).

I saw a TV clip where Blatter CLAIMED that 34 matchdays would give players 'more time for recuperation.' So he is not even consistent with himself.

So he wants maximal 34 matchdays. What is he going to do about the Scottisch (12 teams, 38 matchdays), Austrian and Swiss (10 teams, 36 matchdays), Dutch (18 teams, 34 matchdays + play-offs (maximum 6 matchdays))?

Here is the response of the Scottish Premier League to Blatter's proposal.

Note the comments of the Dundee chief executive, I would love to hear his explanation of how a 10 team league will play 34 or less games!
