Amica/ Lech and Intertoto
Author: kassi Date: 05-06-2006, 12:03	Why is that Amica Wronki (Poland) is going to play in Intertoto. To my knowledge Amica and Lech are going to merge and the name of the new team is going to be Lech Poznan that ended 6th in the league. Amica will not exist in the next season.

Author: bert.kassies Date: 06-06-2006, 09:14	On my lists the name of the team is changed to Lech Poznan. I don't know whether UEFA will use Amica's team ranking. Let's wait and see in the UC-QR2 draw (if Lech qualifies).

Author: Forza-AZ Date: 06-06-2006, 13:02 Edited by: Forza-AZ at: 06-06-2006, 13:04	Changes in seedings if you take Lech Poznan's coefficient (6,104): Ried (6,723) will be the seeded team in Intertoto R3 in stead of Amica/Lech, so Ried will replace them in UEFA QR2 and will be unseeded there. This meens Sion (8,537) will be seeded then.

But we still don't know if they (new Lech) will be able to use Amicas coeff. I will get back to You on this question as soon I know something more about the subject. Best regard, Kronsky

Well, having observed several club mergers in my country, I would say that formally the deal will be that Amica acquires Lech and after that changes name to Lech. In this way, the team will be able to play ITC as inheritor of Amica, but will use the name of Lech. However, UEFA actually requires that teams use their names under which they qualified for the whole season. So, the team will be quoted as Amica as long as they play in UIC or UC this season.

Probably, UEFA became more practical. Why not Lech Poznan ? The Euro competitions haven't started yet - so there is time for a team to buy another team and take its name. Amica will use their spot (achieved through domestic league), but will use the name (that thay actually bought). Sometimes, it's just the name - it's like franchising. Example - McDonald's uses this practice - they sell the right of local companies to use their name if they comply to their business rules and practice (and if they pay the fee of course). So, Lech Poznan sold its name (plus location and fan base) to Amica, because Amica is richer and can support their otherwise bankrupt team.

Sometimes I don't understand how the things work in Poland aswell. We are many confused polish that lives in the middle of weird confusion

Ok, Lech Poznan is a trade mark...well, in Poland anyway. Actually, many years ago, Lech Poznan entered the group stage in CL and i also think that they advanced from the group (confused memory). So - first step is to recon Lech Poznan as just a trade mark.

Then, this is the way it have been done. Old Lech Poznan with regnr. xx will play in lower league or will not play at all. Also, I assume that Lech Poznan XX will change the name.

The new Lech Poznan with regnr. AA have been registered as new "formation"/ "club" or whatever to replace NOT old Lech but Amica, that is now going to play in lower division. New Lech Poznan is overtaking the TRADEMARK of Lech Poznan XX.

By replacing Amica, not Lech, they hope to adopt Amicas coeff. I would bet on that Lech AA will get this higher coeff. If there would be a matter of replacing L Poznan XX, then old Amica - that is not playing anymore or in low division - would be registered to play in Intertoto. New Lech Poznan is overtaking Amicas PLACE in Extraklasa.

Then, to raise the confusion, we could possibly see two clubs in Poland with the name of Lech Poznan, but with different registration numer. For example, one of them owuld be named to Lech Poznan SSA (Ltd) and the other on KS Lech Poznan (KS= Klub Sportowy). But that also does not mean that both would have fotball teams. Most probably, Lech Poznan XX will keep inside their organisation the rest of all sport teams except fotball.

I promise to digg deep inside the subject to get relevant information on this subject. Possibly, next week I will know something more.
