| In the 1st round off the UEFACUP there are 40 stronger teams seeded and 40 weeker teams not seeded.
I prefair a system to seed teams about the ranking off theire countries and the prestations in the national leagues and cups.
The most logic way to seed will be: -The holder -The cupwinners off the 15 highest ranked countries. -The loosers off CL-Q3 -The nrs-3 off the nrs-7 too -14 in the ranking.
That will be totally 40. |

| Why would the country ranked between the 7th and the 14th place have 2 seeded teams and not the 1-6? |

| All right than, the nrs-5 off the 3 highest ranked countries andt the nrs-4 off the nrs-4 too -6 and the nrs-3 off the nr-7 and -8!! |

| Iwan: Tell me 1 reason why a team from the german second division should be seeded in UEFA R1? |

| Nick, Eintracht Frankfurt is not a second division team. They are currently 14th in Bundesliga and are not going to be relegated. But I agree with the idea of your question, you can change it to "why should FC Gretna be seeded?" (If they win their cup final and start in R1) Seeding should have nothing to do with your domestic success, but only with your European merits (your own and partly your countries..). Especially since cup winners are often the weakest teams entering the competition. |

| Actually it's not about Eintracht, Gretna or somebody else. Seeding if applied should be based only on sporting criteria and nothing else. |

| I think seeding should not be based on coefficientsbut on position in domestic championship.
The winner of the championship should always be seeded over the runner-up, no matter who they are. |

| I disagree. Performance domestically in many cases can not be freely translated to performance in Europe. The nature of the competition is very different and we have seen numerous examples to this point. |

Edited by: iwan at: 09-05-2006, 09:15 | Dear Nick,
Yes, many German teams are very low in ranking. Maybe a combination of club-ranking and country-ranking can be possible too.
Instead the nrs-3 off the nrs-7 too -14 it's possible too to seed the 8 highest teams in ranking, the rest off the seeded teams can be received at the same way I've earlier told. |

| Dear Iwan, The seeding criteria you propose make the european performance of every club in the past seasons absolutely irrelevant. This way you are shutting of every club from a smaller coutry from reaching the later stages of the tournament even if this club has a long tradition of success in Europe. If you play every year your first matches against teams from the Top 3 you will sooner or later loose |

I might be a cynic but I have the feeling the entire purpose of this topic was to suggest a way for FC Groningen to be seeded in next year's UEFA Cup....
Give it up, it's not happening |
