Question about the format and money in UC
Author: cska Date: 20-04-2006, 15:29	Hi all, I just wanted to ask if someone of you has read whether UEFA are going to change the format of UC in the next few years (will the groups stage be more fair with 2 legs instead of one match, which gives advantage to some teams and disadvantage to others) ? Also, will UEFA give bonus points for qualification and pay money for every earned point in the group stage as it does for CL ?

i remember reading that UEFA is for now satisfied with the uefa cup format and they wont change it and in my opinion this format is better for eastern teams because as we can see they can bring many points for theyre country (in this year Bulgaria and especcialy Romania).
UEFA wont give bonus point for the group qualifiers in the UEFA cup but the qualiffied teams will receive much more money simmilar with the winnings in CL,not like this year when a team had to qualify atleast in the quarters to make some money only by television winnings.this is a very good change that UEFA will make because western teams will be more atracted for UEFA cup not like now when only champions league is the real prize

Format is meant to be set pretty much until 2009 (for the CL as well). This is when the TV contracts next come up for tender.

UEFA are currently conducting a review of the format of both competitions for seasons from 2009-10.

There is a recent press article on UEFAs site regarding the TV rights for the next three UEFA Cups, as well as something in the latest UEFA direct. It says basically that, of all the revenue UEFA collects from the UEFA Cup 75% will be paid out in prize money, with 60% of this going in equal shares to the 40 clubs who reach the Group stage and the other 40% as "market share" to the quarter-finalists. No figures are given but I guess as the bids for TV rights are not yet in then they don't know them yet!
