| How will that become a Uefa Cup spot?
Middlesbrough win UEFA cup and reach the FA Cup final? |

| When the FA cup finalist Middlesbrough or West Ham finishes within the EPL top-6. |

Edited by: dawgs at: 15-04-2006, 14:05 | It won't become a euro spot, at least not that year. Boro winning the UC will only benefit them as a club, not England as an association.
If Arsenal wins the CL, but stays out of the top4, even the 6th place will not be a euro spot, from the way I understand the new UEFA regulations.
edit: Bah, bert is right. But I'm right as well, damn it. As much as West Ham/Boro cup finalist is out of the top 6, I'm right. |

| Cheers Bert.
Cant see it happening.
Boro wont finish in the top 6 and if West Ham were to reach the FA Cup final they'd know they were in Europe all ready so maybe they'd take there foot off the gas. |

That will only be true when Arsenal finish outside the top 6 and win the CL. Then the number 4,5 and the cupfinalist will go to the UEFA-cup.
When Arsenal finish 5th or 6th then it will be this way: number 4, number 5 or 6 and cupfinalist will go to UEFA-cup. |

| If Boro win the Uefa Cup and don't reach the FA Cup Final then they will defend the Uefa Cup as Title Holders. This will give England an extra Uefa Cup place. Otherwise West Ham or Boro will be in the Uefa Cup (as winners/runners up of the FA Cup) and only 5th & 6th in the Premiership will qualify. If Arsenal finish 5th or 6th but win the Champions League then they will be in the Champions League and 4th will be in the Uefa Cup. |

| Not wanting to fog the issue because logically I agree with the answer given by Bert and mostly confirmed since.
But I did hear a comment on Radio Five Live that it had been suggested (either by the FA or UEFA - I missed which) that seventh place COULD result in a UEFA Cup place if Middlesbro won the UEFA Cup AND reached the Cup Final. The reporter did say that the FA were asking UEFA for clarification. Makes no sense to me but we'll see....
Dawgs. I hope you (and others) are wrong about the sixth placed team missing out if a team outside the European positions wins the CL. It almost certainly wont happen in England this year (Arsenal may not make the CL but they are pretty sure to be in the top 6) but it might in Spain. Just imagine - Sevilla could lose the UEFA Cup Final, finish sixth in La Liga and then not qualify for Europe. Not right. |

| Well, originally it didn't make much sense last year w/ the CL controversy either... But in the end it worked. |
