| 20 years ago Steaua played the final of the Champions Cup in Seville against Barcelona & won on penalties , now they have a chance of playing a UEFA CUP final against Seville FC , history repeating? Will Steaua win 2-0 in the final in Einhoven? |

| What question is this? This is kind of question for the beginig of the competition. All the 4 teams can reach the final, but Middlesbrough has the smaller chances.
More apropiate question, were: Is Steaua favorite to win the final? The statistic say : YES. |

| Can Steaua make the final - of course any of the four teams can.
Is Steaua favorite to win?
Only if you take a vote on this forum. In the real world...
Middlesbro is outsider? Why?
Haven't checked the bookies odds lately but I'd be pretty sure that the winner of "the other" semi-final would be favorite to win the cup. Why? Sevilla come from the best league in the world and Schalke have actually won something in Europe more recently than 20 years ago.
Still - it's VERY EVEN between the four teams. Steaua might win but they are only favorites to you because of your bias in their favour. |

Edited by: STK at: 12-04-2006, 18:29 | Wrong. I think i specified, the statistics say "YES", not me. My opinion is not relevant.
This last year statistics: higher rating avg. (which i see you taken into consideration just when you feel like it); most games ; most teams eliminated; best defentce; best attack (i think), and ...; then there is the superior european experience of Steaua in comparison with the all other 3 teams.
Of coures favorite doesn't mean 100% winner, just a comparative distinction, the team who has the most statistic numbers of it's side. |

| Hang on - statistics? higher rating average? What does this mean? Points picked up by individual teams in past two years: Steaua 10+16 = 26 points (including those picked up in qualifying rounds which other teams didn't have the opportunity to do) Middlesbro 12+15 = 27 points Sevilla 12+15 = 27 points Schalke 10+16 = 26 points (including some CL points, not sure if this is an advantage or disadvantage).
Like I said - very even. And I don't think many of the 1986 European Cup winning squad are still playing for Steaua so I don't think that victory counts for much in 2006.
I'll reiterate - I'm not saying Steaua wont win. They have as good a chance as any - but not better.
I am though determined to extinguish the "Steaua are one of the great clubs of European football brigade" because it's frankly a fantasy and it'll still be a fantasy even if they beat Boro (at best an average English Premiership team) and then Sevilla (last Spanish Champions in 1946 and currently 18 points off the best in Spain) or Schalke (last German Champions in 1958, did win the UEFA Cup in 1997 and only 13 points off the best in Germany). It needs a good performance in the CL to prove European quality - the UEFA Cup doesn't cut it. Good luck next year! |

Edited by: ice_ball at: 12-04-2006, 20:32 | I'll let find yourself the answer for the question if there are any guys left from the 86 squad. But let me remaind you Steaua's achievments. CL 86 w, 87 sf, 89 f. In the early 90's made the CL group stage at least 4 times if I recall corectly. So, are we talking about european experience? In the last 25 years, Steaua played every year in the european cups with 2 or 3 exceptions. One more interesting fact

Edited by: STK at: 12-04-2006, 21:45 | And this year's numbers which i find real relevant:
1. Steaua 24,3350 (21.0) 2. Sevilla 23,5490 (19.0) 3. Schalke 04 23,4030 (20.0) 4. Middlesbrough 22,4310 (18.0) team ranking (team country coefficient) for 2005-2006
1. Steaua 16 games (8 wins, 6 draws, 2 defeats) 5 teams eiminated 2. Sevilla 12 games (7 wins, 3 draws, 2 defeats) 4 teams eliminated 3. Middlesbrough 12 games (7 wins, 2 draws, 3 defeats) 4 teams eliminated 4. Schalke 04 12 games (6 wins, 3 draws, 3 defeats) 3 teams eliminated
I've included the qualification rounds, because they are an disadvantage not an advantage for the team who play them. All others teams except Steaua (who played not one, but 2 qr), played dirrect in the competition, Sevilla and Middlesbrough in UEFA 1st round and Schalke 04 in UCL group stages (!!!) - "lazy bitches".
1. Steaua 10, 20-4, +16 2. Sevilla 10, 20-7, +13 3. Shchalke 04 10, 24-13, +11 4. Middlesbrough 10, 16-7, +9
Steaua with far best defence and goal difference, Schalke best attack |

| I'll hold up my hands and say I made an error with my figures for this year - I accidentally picked up a slightly out of date list which I printed prior to the second leg of the last 16 ties.
But I still don't buy your argument that the figures show Steaua's superiority - 4 more games for one more win? Like I said four very closely matched and all pretty average quality teams.
As for Ice-Ball. You're the sort of person - rather than STK I'm really arguing against. Steaua always qualify for Europe because the strength in depth of their domestic league has been generally poor. That might be changing but hasn't yet. If it had been better in the past 9 seasons a Romanian side might have made the CL group stages.
You are right to be proud of the past history of your team but not to use it as evidence of their superiority to other teams in 2006. |

1. Steaua 21 12 7 2 34 12 43p (+13) 2. Dinamo 22 13 4 5 42 21 43p (+10) 3. Sportul 22 11 5 6 35 21 38p (+5) 4. Rapid 21 10 7 4 28 17 37p (+7) 5. FC Nažional 22 10 6 6 23 22 36p (+3)
Althrough, i don't find very fortunate that all top 5 teams are from Bucharest. |

| ye, rapid 3-0 dinamo with that joke of a referee dindt see a penalty for dinamo in "2 min seeable from the moon, than INVENTED a freekick from 20m and rapid scored 1-0. i dont excuse dinamos execrabe play but this referee is a JOKE (he dictated 42 faults, the players only looked at each other and he blew the wistle), and the referee from dinamo - steaua was a total retard, helped dinamo this time , i think theese 2 referees from abroad should go sell seeds in the market |

| Middlebrough win today 4-2 over Charlton is interesting. M.. has a grat team but sort of rudimentary. If you take out Viduka and Mendieta M.. would just be a regular Brithish team fighting for relegation. So my point here is that if Steaua would play close on Viduka and J.F.H they shouldn't have any problems advancing to the final. I don't know Mendieta's recovering process right now so I won't comment on him. As for Steaua we have many dangerous wepons that can turn a match around if they are on target. I would mention Dica, Nicolita, Cristea, Radoi aso.
Sorry for the offtopic comment |

| Why do you count the matches played in qualifying rounds? Steaua played 4 QR mathces, but they weren't even played in the UEFA Cup, they were played in the UCL. Also these QR don't matter for the team coefficient and they barely matter for the country rankings.
I would say (not that it will influence the semi-finals): Steaua - 12M, 6W, 5D, 1L, 20GF, 4GA, +16GD |

Edited by: dinamo_fan_4_ever at: 13-04-2006, 15:33 | @luck yes, the referee wanted to be inpartial and so he blew the wistle at each and any touch the 1st half barely had 10 mins of continuous playing. 1 a penalty for dinamo in 3 min - he was the only 1 that didnt see it 2 freekick (22M) and yellow card INVENTED - just look at all the replays and rapid scores
per total if rapid had won 1-0 its OK,but this JOKE of a referee made the game impossible for dinamo
ps dont tell me that i am subjective because i am not, at dinamo - steaua, even if steaua scored the 1-1 in last minute i said dinamo didnt even deserve that draw cause thaey played nothing and the referee also pushed them from behind againd steaua |
