The FIFA introduced that plan with 36 countries in march'03 and many people and country-FA's from all the 6 continents could aggree with that,JPV had never known that!?!?
But in june'03 the FIFA changed their mind!!
And they did it very unaspecting!!!
I've never known why they did that!!
From the discussion between march and june'03 in the FIFA I've only readed 2 newspapers.
What ever, when the FIFA didn't change their mind I'd never spent a word about WCT's with 36,40 ore 48 countries!!! |

| iwan, how many more topics do you intent to start on this subject? We know you don't like 32. We know you see a gazillion of options for other formats. But this forum is not the place to discuss all aspects of international football. Please discuss it somewhere else.

| When there ware 36 countries in the earlier called proportion, than all they members off the final-WCT had been sure alleready now, only the 2 lowest ranked European countries had to play a play-off against each-otter, Switserland and Slowakia, the winner should be put in pot-3 and than the lottery for the final tournement could be helt
allready now!!! |

| I think that a larger World Cup (although it would benefit ROmania perhaps) would be to big. Of course it's true that in football there are a lot more competitive teams than in other sports. |

Pot-1:Holland,England,Germany,France,Spain,Mexico,Argentina,Brazil,Italy
Pot-2:Portugal,USA,Korea,Turkey,Tsjechia,Costarica,Sweden,Japan,Kroatia
Pot-3:Poland,Bosnia,Tunesia,Paraguay,EEcuador,Ukraine,Iran,Norway and the winner of the play-off Switserland/Slowakia.
Pot-4:Togo,Angola,Ivorcoast,Gana,Australia,Uruguay,Trinidat,Bahrin
and Saoudi-Arabia.
By 12 pools of 3: Portugal,Sweden and USA in pot-1 and Poland,Tunesia,
Ukraine,Norway, Paraguay in pot-2, and all te teams of pot-3 in pot-4.
A system to play can be 12 ppools of 3, the best 2 of each will be put in 8 new pools of 3 for each 2 spots in the 1/8th-final. Than there must be played 76 matches instead 64 now.
An otter system can be 9 pools of 4, the 9 winners and the 7 best runners-up going in to the 1/8th-final, ore 4 of the 9 runners-up must play play-offs for 2 spots in the 2nd round. Than 70 ore 72 matches.
That can be desided at the prestations (the lowest points, the worst goaldifference) ore the 4 pools who'll finish first,pool-A and-B will be finish 2 ore 3 days earlier than pool-H and -I.
When a team comes in a pool where the members has 38% chance to reach the 2nd round it can be compensated all off those 6 teams can meat against a runner-up in that round and the teams in a pool with 50% chance 9 off the 10 meat a winner in that round.
In the play-offs will be played:
A2-B2
C2-D2
And in the 1/8th-finals:
A1-E2
B1-F2
C1-G2
D1-H2
E1-i2
F1-G1
H1-i1
A2/B2-C2/D2
Allways htere are played 4 matches a day in the group-stage(s), 2 in the 1/8th and qarteralfinals, and 1 in the semiefinals and later!!
The tournement don't take more than 4 days time than now and people hasn't to wayt 2 month longer for the lottery of the pools
