I know that the merit is 3 last World Cups and Fifa table in last 3 years. But what that means exactly? How can Fifa table affect the rankings?
Here is a table with all points in last 3 World Cups: So what are we looking? Total points, participations, quaterfinals?

| I think it was something like winner gets 32 points, final loser 31 etc. But I don't know if the last WC is awarded more points than that before(???). |

| I found the exact rules for this ranking here.
What is the seeding formula exactly? The complex formula takes into account the performance at the last 3 world cups and the FIFA coca-cola rankings of the last three years.
Specifically: [1(wc94) + 2(wc98) + 3(wc02)>/6 = Part A (FIFA ranking 12/03 + FIFA ranking 12/04 + FIFA ranking 11/05)/3 = Part B Part A + Part B = world cup seeding formula
How is the world cup performance determined? 0 points are awarded if the country failed to qualify that year. 8 points are awarded if the country finished last in their group. 9 points are awarded if the country finished 3rd in their group. All the countries that advanced to the knockout stage are placed from 1st place to 16th place. 1st place (champs) receives 32 points. 2nd place receives 31 points. 3rd place receives 30 points. etc. All the way to 16th place which receives 17 points.
How are the points for FIFA ranking awarded? Similarly to above. First, all 32 teams that qualify are ranked by their FIFA ranking. The best is given 32 points. The worst 1 point.

Edited by: dinamozagreb at: 05-09-2005, 23:22 | Thanks Forza, i have all what i need so ill make a table. Only 1 question. This table will be final? No fixed positions for some confederations? I read here that Mexico have to go to pot1? So if it happens that ,i dont know, Ukraine is 30th( i know its unlikely), they will definitely go to pot4? |

| Yes, the highest 8 qalified countries will be put in pool-1, the next 8 in pool-2 etc. For the highest 8 will be Mexico,England,Sweden and Turkey strong opponents of the 2nd pool and USA,Russia and Nigeria off the lower ranked teams!!!
But is AUT stranding for Austria ore for Australia??! |

| In the last WC, this seding system was used to determine the 6 Pot 1 teams (+ Japan and Korea), but it was not used for Pots 2,3,4. These pots were done to avoid clashes between teams from the same confederation.
If it is done in the same way, it doesn't matter if Ukraine is 10th or 32nd in the ranking. |

| Indeed, usually only the groupheads are determined by this way. In the other pots are countries from the same confederation.
So assume that in Pot 1 are 5 European teams, 2 South American and 1 CONCACAF, and the South American en CONCACAF teams will win the intercontinental play-off's then the remaining teams are:
Europe: 9 teams Asia: 4 teams Africa: 5 teams CONCACAF: 3 teams South America: 3 teams
So then there will be 1 pot with 8 European teams, 1 pot with the African teams and the CONCACAF or South American teams, and 1 pot with the Asian, CONCACAF or South American teams and the remaining European team. |

Edited by: isidromv at: 06-09-2005, 12:23 | Assuming also the same procedure, there will be a pot with the 9 European teams, a pot with 7 teams (Asia + one of the Americas) and 1 pot with 8 (Africa + the other America).

Edited by: dinamozagreb at: 06-09-2005, 17:06 | Ok people, i made a WORLD CUP PRE-DRAW TABLE according to Forza's info. Here it is again: ----------------------------------- What is the seeding formula exactly?
How is the mock draw determined? I use the same pots that were used in the last 2 world cups. Pot A has seeded teams. Pot B has European teams. Pot C has non-seeded Concacaf and African teams. Pot D has non-seeded South American, Asian and Oceania teams The leftover Euro team is placed in either Pot C or D depending on which Pot needs another team. ------------------------------------------- Before i start, some things are not logical to me: 1) Why is the final number of last 3 WC divided by 6, and the one of fifa-tables by 3. It doesn't make sense that fifa-ranking is double more important than last 3 WC. 2) All fourth placed teams in WC groups get 8 points, and third 9 points. Why don't fourth get 1 to 8 points, and third 9 to 16 points?
Remarks: 1)If 2 countries on Fifa-table have equall points and equall position, i awarded them equall points in my table also. 2)If some countries have same results in last 16, last 8 or semifinals of WC, i put that country in front that has better results in the 1st round group phase. (For example if country A lost in last 16 0-1, and coutry B also, i put country A in front if they got 6 points i the group, and county B less than 6) 3)I don't have Fifa-table November 2005, so i put the one from last month. So only that update is missing and will have to be changed.
Countries i put as 32: I put already qualified, favourites to qualify and those who have better chances to me: Uzbekistan, Spain as no1 in group, France as no1 in group, best 2nd: group 6 and 8, play-off: Czech R, Greece, Ireland, Uruguay.... Please don't waste time arguing about some countries i didn't put in. This is only provisional.
SO IT'S REALLY NOT IMPORTANT WHICH COUNTRY IS FROM 9-32?

| The FIFA-ranking is not twice as important as the WC's. You forgot to multiply WC 2002 by 3, WC 1998 by 2, and WC 1994 by 1. That's why you have to divide it by 6!!!
And I think you shouldn't just look at which country had the best result in the last 16 of the WC, but look at all 4 matches they played (a groupwinner that won 3 times and loses in the last 16 should be above a runner-up with only 3 points that loses on penalty's in the last 16 I believe).
I have the total ranking of the WC's (country names in Dutch):

| Thanks Forza. I repaired it and i think it is correct now:
Forza can you check the site that Agent mentioned, because i think there are 2 mistakes: See here: 1st big table with 3 WC's: LINK 1)In 2002 WC, i think he mixed up Uruguay and Ecuador. Ecuador should have 8 point and Uruguay 9 cz Ecu was last in group not Uru. 2)In WC 1994, he put in rankings on 14.place Switzerland and on 15.place USA, but i think it should be reverse, because SWI has 4 point and -2GD, and USA 4 points and -1 GD.

| So according to my table, and if fifa doesn't change the procedure and all of my 32 countries go to WC this should be it:

| This subject was discussed recently here
Here's the ranking that I calculated based on the latest FIFA ranking and assuming the top 20 teams in FIFA ranking all qualify to the WC:
PWC RP TOT 1 Brazil 31.67 32.00 63.67 2 Spain 21.17 27.67 48.84 3 Germany 28.83 19.00 47.83 4 Mexico 21.00 26.67 47.67 5 Italy 23.50 22.00 47.50 6 Argentina 17.33 29.67 47.00 7 England 21.50 25.17 46.67 8 France 14.67 28.50 43.17 9 Netherlands 14.00 28.67 42.67 10 USA 18.17 23.67 41.84 11 Denmark 19.83 17.67 37.50 12 Turkey 15.00 21.33 36.33 13 Sweden 15.00 17.17 32.17 14 Ireland 13.33 18.50 31.83 The top 7 are virtually secured. The big question is whether France or Netherlands or even USA will be the 8th seed. |

| Yes, you're table id slightly different because you put Denmark and Turkey in, but they can't both go in, and i put in mine that neither will go. |

| Well, i dont ![](include/smilies/s0.gif)
But Denmark and Turkey can't both go in for sure because they are fighting for 2nd place.
I predicted what 32 countries will go to WC based on results, form, rankings...i will be wrong, but also i might not. My table is certainly more valuable than the one that Agent mentioned because author put some teams that have no chance, and in mine all 32 teams are favourites. |

| Surely it wouldn't be 1 european team to 3-rd pot - should be pot of 9 teams because there is only 8 seeded teams on WC - everyone else are placed into pots by confederation reasons. Remember last WC when Sweden was the 3-rd team in their group while Poland was 2-nd - certainly Sweden was higher by this rankings so 2-nd european pot will consist of 9 teams and 1 dropped team will be decided by the draw not by the rankings. |

Edited by: porto-1978 at: 07-09-2005, 17:06 | Greece in trouble. At this moment (82?) 1-1. Droping points in this game means litle chances for helenic to became second. 84?now and still 1-1... Well, nevermind. 1-2 for Greece in over time! Greece still in the fight... Still good possibilities for them being in WC draw. But almost a big surprise! Two red cards for Kazahkistan in the last minutes. Any penalty?
By the way is Kazahkistan worse or better than the possible WC partitipant, Uzbekistan? No way to know? |

| @ Dinamozagreb
I made that ranking before the latest matches, so both Denmark and Turkey could qualify.
If Turkey doesn't qualify, England gets extra 0.083, Italy and Germany extra 0.333, USA extra 0.167.
If Denmark doesn't qualify, Germany gets extra 0.5. |

| You are already planning the group for your team but first you should qualify! Croatia made me lost almost 500€ because of not winning in Malta, the weakest team of Europe. Ah, bloody rakija! Good luck, anyway. |

| So is this it?
POT 1-tip 8 in special table(8) BRA-SPA-GER-MEX-ARG-ENG-ITA-FRA
POT 2-other european teams(9) HOL-SWE-CRO-CZE-POR-POL-TUR-SCG-UKR
POT 3 OR 4-americas and afRIca USA-COS-GHA-ANG-TOG-CIV-TUN-GUA/TRI?
POT 3 OR 4-south america and aisia and oceania PAR-ECU-JAP-KOR-IRN-SAU-URU/AUS-BAH?
My question is:
Because there is 9 eur. teams in pot 2, it depends which pot will be drawn next on the fact which pot will have 7 countries?
This prediction is based on last WC draw. |

| If Spain doesn't qualify, Holland will be seeded.
As the draw was done so far, there can't be more than 2 European teams in one group, and no more than one from other conferences. So 2 European teams from pot 2 should be drawn to one of the groups headed by non-European - BRA, ARG or MEX.
My guess is that the remaining south American teams will be in the same pot with African teams, and the Asians with those from CONCACAF. But it could also be Africa + CONCACAF and South America + Asia. |

| Is it definite that SCG will be in pot 2? If so we stand a great chance of making it through the group stage.
SCG's success is mostly result of good work of coach Petkovich. He made these players into a real team - something previous coaches could not do (especially Savicevic). |

| ignjat, The following groups exist: 1. Seeded group, 8 teams: Brasil, Germany, Mexico, Argentina, Italy, England, France, Spain/Holland 2. European group, 9 teams Ukraine, Porutgal, Poland, Serb&Mngr, Sweden, Croatia + 3 coming from the play-offs or Holland 3. African group, 5 teams 4. Asian group, 4 or 5 teams 5. North American group(not Mexico), 2 or 3 teams 6. South American group(not Brasil & Argent.), 2 or 3 teams 7. Oceanic group, 0 or 1 team
Groups 3,4,5,6,7 and the remaining 1 European team will be split up into 2 draw-groups of 8 teams. Variuos combinations are possible, also depending on play-off results.
Example: Africa(5) + North America(2/3) in 1 group, if T&T lose, the European team is added. This will leave Asia(4/5) and S-America(2/3) and Oceania(0/1) and the European team if T&T wins in the other group. |

| Are you sure that 9th european nation will be added to 3red or 4th pot.
I think they will draw all 9 european teams together. And one will be third in one group. |
