Portillo moves on loan to current belgian champions Club Brugge for one season. At Real Madrid he was only 5th in the pecking order after Ronaldo, Raul, Robinho and Baptista. Especially the chance of playing CL convinced him. Brugge faces in CL Juventus, Bayern Munchen and Rapid Wien. Since Brugge has several strikers injured (Lange, Ishiaku,...)and for the first time this year's belgian champion goes to CL directly, it's a nice solution. He will be playng with nr. 22.

transfers this year:
out: Simons (PSV Eindhoven), VanderHeyden (Wolfsburg), Ceh (Austria Wien, Cornelis (RC Genk), Rozehnal (PSG)

in: Leko(Croatia Zagreb, former Malaga), Valgaeren (Celtic), Vermant (Schalke 04),Dufer (Caen), Portillo (on loan, Real Madrid)

After 5 successful years with approximately the same players a lot has changed in Brugge. I think replacements are good enough and we made a financial gain with transfers + reaching CL

The future looks bright!

edit: nice detail: he's not allowed to play against Real Madrid in CL! Guess they do'nt want sequel of the Morientes/Monaco story :-). But hey, since we're in a group with juve and bayern==> not likely to happen...

i think it is illigal, if club brugge must play real madrid, they have every right to let portillo play against real madrid

Game against... Real can!

If Javier Portillo would end up with Club Brugge in the Champions League against Real Madrid, then the Spanish forward can take part against its mother club. Initial Royal would prevent that with a Morientes clause. But this did not happen. In 2004, Fernando Morientes (meanwhile at Liverpool) was lent Real to Monaco. With two goals for the French club he threw Real in the quarter finals out the Champions League. A recurrence of that scenario is therefore possible.

But what a great player to Bruges!!!
